James Leroy Keith

James Leroy Keith, age 92, passed away November 26, 2020 at Kirkwood Manor. James was born September 8, 1928 in Corsicana, Texas to Lee Roy Keith and Ethel Byrd Reese. James graduated from Freer High School in 1947 and then attended the University of Corpus Christi where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in bible and secondary education. There he met the love of his life, Dorothy Pitzer. They were married May 30, 1949. In 1952, James was drafted into the Korean War. While serving in Korea he realized he wanted to be a teacher. When James returned home from Korea, he attended South West Texas State University and obtained two master’s degrees in History and English. James served as a teacher and principal for several years. Throughout his educational years he was highly spoken of from his co-workers, students and friends and acquired many commendations and awards throughout the years. His greatest passion was education and teaching, as he was well known in the education circles. Mr. Keith had a special way of teaching that left a footprint of positivity and an encouraging impact on those around him, especially his students. James loved teaching, and his students loved him. He spoke frequently throughout the years of his love for his students. After he retired from teaching, James had an entrepreneurial spirit and bought a flooring franchise with his wife, which was successful for 17 years. With all of his accomplishments in life, his greatest achievement was his family. James was a strong Christian and loved the Lord. God was his compass and co-pilot through life. James was kind, generous and compassionate, and he never ever met a stranger. He definitely had a sense of humor and a special way of delivering the punch line. James enjoyed hunting, reading, the outdoors and much more. Most of all, he just loved talking to people. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Keith; brother, Alvin Keith and his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Keith. Survivors include his son, Paul Keith and daughter Sandra Bomersbach (David). The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff and caregivers of Kirkwood Manor and Hope Hospice for their support and care. Donations may be made to The Salvation Army.

I will always remember his generous and easy going nature to all people he met. He was always happy to open his heart and home to strangers. With James the were no strangers only people he first met until after a few minutes of talking, they became his friend. I was very blessed to know James and become a part of his family. James will truly be missed. Prayers and strength are with the family to get through these difficult times and cherish the fond memories shared. Janet
