Jeremy David Ortiz, age 41, and a resident of Sequin, Texas, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Resolute Hospital. Jeremy was born on December 6, 1979 in Sacramento, CA to Rebecca Festersen (Nieto) and Gerald Ortiz. His passion in life was his Daughters, his Wife, and his Military career. Survivors include his loving Wife, Kimberly Ortiz (Smith), his Daughters Candice, Madyson, and Brooklynn. His Mother, Rebecca Festersen, his Father, Gerald Ortiz and Step-Mother Kimberly Merrill-Ortiz. His Step-Sister, Megan Jorgensen and lots of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Brothers-in-Arms, and many many Friends. Jeremy was a devoted and very loving Father to his young Daughters Candice, Madyson, and Brooklynn. Jeremy had an excellent sense of humor and enjoyed teaching his Daughters about the history of America, one which He was so proud to serve. He was a devoted Father who coached his Daughter’s soccer team, went door to door with his Daughters to sell Girl Scout cookies, enjoyed taking them camping, and never missed a school event unless he was on military duty. Jeremy was a decorated Army combat veteran and served as a Drill Sergeant. He completed three tours of duty, two to Iraq and one to Afghanistan, until his discharge in May 1, 2017. Jeremy was a badass Soldier who taught others what it meant to be a Soldier and the meaning behind teamwork and bravery. He was an inspiration and true mentor to so many and a loyal friend who gave of himself without asking for anything in return. He was an American who truly loved his Country and he wore his uniform proudly. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. at Lux Funeral Home, 1254 Business 35 N., New Braunfels, TX . On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, funeral services will begin at 12:00 pm at Lux Funeral Home Chapel with a procession to Fort Sam Huston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX. Jeremy was also a bright spot in Grandma Mary’s life. Being his Aunt and Uncle we shared many great times together, for his love of Metallica and the Army. He will be deeply missed.
