Jon C. Cortez, a life-long resident of New Braunfels, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 40. Jon was born on March 2, 1976 in New Braunfels to Ruben Cortez, Sr. and Clemencia Villanueva. John was employed as a machine operator with Senior Flexonics Pathway in New Braunfels. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Adan Cortez, Sr., Ysidro Villanueva, and by his grandmother, Pomposa Villanueva. Survivors include his children, Jessica Lee Cortez and Christopher Jon Cortez, and mother of his children, Karen Hall; parents, Ruben Cortez, Sr. and Clemencia Villanueva (Enrique Flores); brother, Ruben Cortez, Jr.; niece, Felicia E. Cortez and grandparents, Juan and Goyita Garza. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, followed by the Funeral Service, which will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ruben Cortez, Jr., Jesus Mesa, Joe Cortez, Jr., Joe Medina, Felix Rosales, Jr. and Nick Aguilar. In addition, Christopher Jon Cortez will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

  1. Please accept my  deepest condolences  to the family and friends. We can never be fully prepare when ones we love dies so suddenly, and the feelings, and empy void that’s left. Its so loving that our  creator invites us to approach him in prayer, and to Please accept my heartfelt condolence for your loss. The death of a loved one is hard to bear. Please take   in knowing that your heavenly father understands your pain as he too experienced the death of his only son, Jesus Christ. Life is tough, no one knows when a great tragedy might strike any of us. only God knows that. I can’t even imagine what you are going through. All we can do is pray and depend on the Lord to renew your spirits and provide you with what you need. Just remember all the fond memories you have of him.

  5. My deepest condolences to Jon’s Children and Parents and all his loved ones. I just read about this today. I knew Jon when he attended 1st Baptist and we played on the Softball team together. He was a great guy of few words and I would run into him all over town always an easy going disposition. May the LORD bring all of you his peace and assurance in the long days ahead.
