Joseph Earl Davis II

joseph davis ii
Joseph Earl Davis II passed into his heavenly reward and met the Lord Jesus his Savior face to face on December 29, 2021. Beloved husband, devoted father, and adoring grandfather, Joe was a leader, provider, and shelter for his immediate and surrounding family, leading and guiding them from the firm foundation of his faith which began under the witness of his beloved Davis grandfather and uncles. To his friends and colleagues, he was a beacon of clarity, endless historical and factual background, skilled leadership, and compassionate support. Born in Houston in 1952 to Earl and Mary McGown Davis, Joe attended elementary school only a short while in the U.S. when his parents moved together with Joe’s brother Tom to Africa in 1959. There they lived both in Ghana and Nigeria and Joe and his brother attended boarding school in Ibadan. Returning to the U.S., Joe attended and graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy in 1970 from which he fondly recalls some his favorite teachers. After nearly two years working and attending college, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably from 1972 to 1976, including time on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. During service Joe was posted as an air traffic controller and at first believed this could be the direction for his future career, but instead he turned his focus to Texas A&M University and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Engineering Technology. After graduation Joe joined Loyd Electric in San Antonio and commenced a successful 40-year career in electrical contracting with a number of companies including Loyd, Fischbach & Moore, D&F Industries, Valley Electric in Mount Vernon Washington, Montemayor Electric, and finally Southwest Electrical Contracting Services Limited in San Antonio where he served as general manager for 14 years ending with his retirement in April 2019. A man of conviction as well as adventure, Joe participated in missions training through the Assemblies of God World Missions board in the early 1990s and spent time developing a missions entity known as World Serv and ministering in Azerbaijan. An experienced hunter and fisherman, Joe loved the outdoors and above all the many wonderful natural settings of his dearest Texas. Joe particularly loved his hunting dogs and leaves his latest passion, Lucky Jack, a wonderful chocolate Labrador Retriever. Above these things Joe put his love for the Lord and missions first in his life with the goal to answer Christ’s great commission. Joe is preceded by his father and mother, Earl and Mary Davis, and his younger brother Tom. Joe leaves his beloved wife Rosario Ramirez Davis, son Paul Joseph Davis and wife Lezly Schobel Davis of Smithville, daughter Nina Pilar Davis of Fischer, grandchildren Beatrix Rose Davis and Cole Wade Davis, mother-in-law Rosa Ramirez, sisters in law Elsa Garcia and Christina Ramirez, brothers in law Alex Ramirez and Alfonso Garcia, nephew Benjamin Garcia, nieces Jacque Hardin, Alessandra Ramirez, Gabriela Ramirez, and Catalina Garcia. Joe was loved and will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, and friends.
