Joyce M. Darius

joyce darius
Joyce Marie "Rhee" Darius, 71, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in Wimberley, Texas, after a long, ferocious battle with breast cancer. Born on June 20, 1942 in Vernon, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Ruby Pitchford Vaughn. Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, Leo Darius; sons, Gerald Williams of Austin, Texas and Travis Williams of Rosharon, Texas; brothers, Keith Vaughn of Tool, Texas, Norman Vaughn and wife Judy of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters-in-law, Joyce Vaughn and Gertie Darius, both of Arlington, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Vaughn; niece, "Susie" Giles; nephew, Stewart Vaughn; and great-nephew Paul Giles. Friends and acquaintances knew her as Joyce, but to her family she will always be "Rhee." Several nieces had ongoing rivalries, because each one knew she was Aunt Rhee's favorite. Rhee loved to travel with family and friends. She often spent countless hours reliving her favorite trips while watching her famous vacation videos. Her love of travel; however, paled in comparison to her love of family. Rhee was happiest when she was entertaining family and friends at the lake. Those who had the privilege of staying at the "Darius Inn" knew there would always be plenty of good food, freshly made beds (as only she could make), country music, and lots of love, laughter and bacon. Rhee worked for many years as a CNA and med-aid and had a special love for the elderly. She was also a talented stained glass artist. Rhee made many beautiful stained glass windows seen throughout the Hill Country; however, the windows she made for the Greater Life Church in New Braunfels, Texas, in memory of her mother, Ruby Vaughn, were most special to her. Rhee, you were a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. We were greatly blessed to have you in our lives. We love you dearly and you will forever be in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Lux Funeral Home Chapel, 1254 Business 35 N, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.

Guestbook

  1. So many times you opened your home and heart to us. My consolation is knowing that moving an Angel on earth to heaven only allows her to love on more people all at once.

  2. In loving memory of our dear friend Joyce who brought joy and laughter into our lives and forgiveness for a door that was just a little too short. We will miss you so much. With Love and sweet memories, John & Liz Griffiths

  5. So sorry for Joyce to have to go. I know she is in a wonderful place, but will be missed by all that loved her.

  6. Joyce was the first lady I met on my 1st chemo visit. She made me feel so comfortable. She was battling and gave me such great advice. Oh no honey, chemo is a breeze, just go shopping after you walk out of here, and then go home and rest. She never had a negative thought. She instilled in me the positive aspect of our disease. Never ever looking down. I am SO blessed that she came into my life at such a point. From the first time I spoke with her, she made me feel like we were in for the fight and we were going to win it! I am so thankful to her for her advice and joy!

  7. Our thoughts are with you. We are so sorry for your loss. We’ve been thinking about you all daily. Hugs, Joanne & Nate Weber

  8. I had the pleasure of meeting Joyce many years ago through my friendship with my dear friends Judy and Norman Vaugn. She was a pleasure. My deepest prayers to the family.
