Larry F. Blome

Larry F. Blome, 75, loving husband, beloved father and dearly loved friend passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 in New Braunfels,Texas after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Larry was born August 9,1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Arlind and Ceycle (Ludwig) Blome. After graduating from New Braunfels High School in 1960 Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force were he served his country proudly for 20 years, including several tours in Vietnam. Larry was awarded the AF Commendation Medal, NCO Academy Graduate Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with Silver Leaf Cluster and Valor Device and the AF Good Conduct Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster. After retiring from USAF in 1980 Larry went to work as an mechanical engineer for Motorola in Austin, TX. On July 8, 1978 life changed when he married the love of his life Joeleen (Jo) Fergen. This marked the beginning of an incredible 40-year journey together. Larry and Joeleen lived in Austin, Cedar Park, New Braunfels and Kyle, Texas. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Arlind and Ceycle Blome; his brother and chess partner Bobby. He is survived by his wife Joeleen (Jo); son Nicholas (Nick); sister-in-laws, Judy Blome of New Braunfels,TX; Dorene Russell (Jerry) of Kyle,TX; Kay Nutt (Wayne) of Wilmington NC; uncle, Howard Ludwig (Delores) of New Braunfels,TX; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Kirkwood Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Braunfels. Sal, Flo, Laura, Amanda, the care and love you and the entire staff provided for Larry was the best blessing anyone could have asked for. Hope Hospice; Patti and the CNA’s who cared for Larry in his final days will always be cherished. To Ruth Hisle; the countless hours you spent supporting the family during Larry’s last days show us again what a wonderful gift you are. God now has a very special angel in heaven. Larry’s quiet demeanor, sense of humor, sweet smile and of course his love of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns will missed by all who knew him. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX at a later date with a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s or a charity of your choice. ‘And God shall wipe every tear from their eyes.
