Lester Anthony Saucier, Jr.

On May 31, 2023, Lester Anthony Saucier, Jr. completed his masterwork of a life at 81 years. He had a talent for Engineering, design, and most of all an ability to make people laugh, feel at ease, and pass a good time. These talents gave meaning to the lives of his gregarious family of 8 children, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren with another on the way, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He never met a stranger and if so, they would probably become friends. Born on January 7, 1942 in Plaucheville, Louisiana at home, the culture, and colors of Louisiana never left him; he loved his home state and was proud to have been born there. He attended University of Southwestern Louisiana holding a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. A large portion of his education toward his degree was in the fields of mechanical and civil engineering. He practiced professional engineering from 1971 until 1 week before his passing. In his past employments, he served as an engineer with civil engineering responsibility at Gulf States Utilities Company. He has served as the building inspector for Bridge City, Texas and as the building and code inspector for the City of West Orange, Texas. He owned his own engineering consulting firm where he provided the engineering expertise for residential, commercial and governmental projects. He was a qualified windstorm inspector for the Texas Department of Insurance; and held a certificate from Texas A & M Engineering for Gulf Coast Hurricanes. He held certification from Texas A & M for On-site Sewer Facilities for design and inspection by the State of Texas for soil evaluation for foundation design and repair, with American Society of Civil Engineers for the design of structures, international building and residential council, and with Texas Commission of Environmental Quality for the design, engineering, inspection and repair of sewer and water facilities. Lester was a registered home inspector by the Texas Housing Inspection Foundation. He was a member of the Southern Building Code Congress International and a member and certified by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He was a registered Texas Engineer Inspector for the Texas Risk Management. He was recently recognized for outstanding service to the State of Texas as a Professional Engineer for over 50 years by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. For over thirty years he owned and operated a general construction company in the Golden Triangle Area of Texas, where he served as general contractor on residential and commercial projects. His involvement required the management and design of water and rain drainage and management of groundwater control. Lester grew up Catholic and was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic church in Plaucheville, La, St. Henry's Catholic Church in Bridge City, Texas and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, New Braunfels, TX. He was a 3rd Degree Member of Council No. 3406, Knights of Columbus in Bridge City, Texas He was a member of the Rotary Club of Bridge City-Orangefield for 17 years with perfect attendance. He was a past Assistant District Governor, a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, A Benefactor and served on numerous Fundraisers and club projects. The project he was most proud of was an International Project for providing water wells in Nicaragua where he traveled with other local Rotarians from District 5910 to oversee the project. He attended several International Conventions and while attending in New Orleans brought back information on Josh the Otter Program that teaches elementary school children about learning how to float to prevent drowning. This program continues to this day in elementary schools in Bridge City and Orangefield. The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce was an organization in which he served on numerous committees and projects. He was a Lifetime Ambassador with the Chamber and served on the board of directors. He was a member of Sunset Country Club in Orange, TX. and an avid golfer. He played in numerous tournaments there, and so enjoyed playing with his friends and family several times a month. He enjoyed going to North and South Carolina to play in The Dupont Amateur Championship of which his Daughter Donna introduced him to. He was so proud of being a founding member of Krewe du Bayou in Orange. He was always there to help on the float for the parade and taking part in the festivities. Being named Duke of the Krewe in 2019. Besides Golf his hobbies and interests included fishing, hunting, boating, camping, gardening, gambling, cruising and traveling. He loved people and never passed up a chance to entertain, especially when it came to his crawfish boils. He was passionate about football, especially ULL, LSU and New Orleans Saints. Lester had a way with animals and could never say no to taking in a rescue. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester A. Saucier, Sr. and Marie Saucier, daughter Donna Saucier Ferchak and late wife, Arlene Thibodeaux Saucier. He is survived by his wife, Marialeice Jeffcote Saucier; seven children, Jade M. Saucier and wife Karen, Dana M.Dupuis and husband John, Tammy A. Saucier, Erron L. Saucier and wife Erika, Marc G. Saucier, Dominic J. Colletti, and Adrienne Poni Colletti; sister, Alice M. Duncan and husband Henry; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren with another on the way; 2 great-great grandchildren, 5 Sister-in-laws, 5 Brother-in-laws; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Lester's grandchildren hold him in their hearts and are his Honorary Pallbearers: Richard Ferchak, Jr. (Dick), Amy Ferchak-Petrie, John E. Dupuis, Jr. (Jed), Ashlyn Ewest, Amy Dupuis, Ralph Fournier Ill (Trey), Haylee Fournier, Bryce Saucier, Mitchell Saucier (Mitch), Alexandra Saucier (Alex), Blake Saucier, Gabriella Saucier (Gabi), Enzo Platt, and Ezekiel Platt (Zeke). A rosary will be held at Lux Funeral Home Chapel, 1254 N. Business IH35, New Braunfels, TX. 78130 on June 24th at 11:00 AM followed by a memorial service. Donations in Lester's name may be made to the charity of your choice. In the near future his ashes will be scattered in Cow Bayou in Bridge City, Texas at his request.
