The Matriarch of our family, Ludelia Maxine Dycus Dorman, who preferred to be called “Dee”, passed away June 23, 2022. She was our rock and our guiding light and we will miss her deeply. Dee was born April 23, 1930 in San Marcos, Texas to Ida Mae Ratliff Dycus and Edward Hampton Dycus. She was raised in San Marcos, Texas and graduated from San Marcos High School where she was a majorette with the band. Her years growing up in San Marcos were happy and content. Dee attended Texas Christian University for two years. She worked as a telephone operator in San Marcos prior to opening a dance studio in New Braunfels, Texas. Upon moving to Austin, Texas she resumed work as a telephone operator for the Terrace Hotel. She married Stanley F Dorman December 31, 1954 who was stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas. As a military wife of 36 years, Dee had the opportunity to live in Austin, Texas; Roswell, New Mexico; Atwater, California; Reno, Nevada; and Universal City, Texas. She taught dance in Roswell, NM and Atwater, CA and then worked as a bookkeeper for Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in Reno. While living in Universal City she worked for Earl Abel Restaurants and Kotzebue Air Conditioning Company. She loved to work outside in the yard. She especially loved the spring and fall as that is when she filled her planters with mums. Dee enjoyed making unique and small special gifts for friends and grandchildren, painting refrigerator magnets or small figurines of elves or mermaids. Dee had numerous friendships that were developed as a result of her membership in Beta Sigma Phi. She received a Silver Circle certificate for her 25 years of service within the sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 36 years Stanley F. Dorman, son James R. Dorman, younger sister Teddy Mae Piper, younger brother George W. Dycus and Great Granddaughter Emmeline Grace Huffman. Dee is survived by her daughter, Pamela Schuh and husband George; son Stanley (Jay) Dorman and wife Carolyn. Seven grandchildren Brooke Rheinlaender and husband Jason; Nicholle Prosser; Laura Krippendorf and husband Larry; Jenna Kronk and husband Corey; Eric Dorman; Kristie Schuh; Megan Huffman and husband Chris.
