Luis Arturo Perez, 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Born on August 19, 1935 in Temascalcingo, Mexico he was the son of Antonio Perez and Amparo Soto Perez. Luis Arturo (Arturo to his loved ones) was the fourth of ten children and was raised in Coroneo, Mexico. He moved to Mexico City and learned the printing trade. At age 19, Arturo went to New York City, joining his brother Peter (Pedro). Their aunt, Sr. Bautista, a religious who lived in NYC with her community, sponsored them. His wife of 60 years, Rosa Maria, was from the same town in Mexico. They met when he was 25 and she was 19. After two years they were married, and moved to New York City to start their life together. They had three children, Aida, Arturo, and Allen and moved out to Long Island where they had their youngest child, Andy. As a new immigrant, he completely immersed himself in the language and culture and he worked hard to provide for his family. Arturo’s professional career was spent as a lithographer in New York City, until his retirement. A lifelong Roman Catholic, he served the church first as an altar boy and continued to serve as an adult in various ways; including an active membership in the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph’s Church in Ronkonkoma, NY. Moving to New Braunfels, Texas in 2012, you could find Arturo in St. Peter and Paul’s adoration chapel every Thursday morning. At the start of the pandemic, his family used zoom to remain united and started to pray the rosary nightly, which Arturo enjoyed leading and his children plan on continuing. In Texas, he quickly picked up the hobby of cracking pecans, finding new lakes to walk around, and exploring HEB. He loved humming a tune and enjoyed climbing to new heights wherever his adventures took him. His legacy includes his eight grandchildren: Anthony, Michael, Phillip, Alex, Sophia, Natalia, Gaby, and Isabela. Arturo was always known for his strong work ethic, and he will always be remembered for telling everyone to “take it easy”. Luis is preceded by his parents and siblings; Manuel (+) and Consuelo (+). Luis is survived by his wife of 60 years; Rosa Maria Perez; children, Aida Willis (Scott), Luis Arturo Perez (Maureen), Allen M. Perez (Kathleen), and Andrew Perez (Myriam); grandchildren, Luis Anthony, Michael, Phillip, Alexander, Sophia, Natalia, Gabriela, and Isabela; and siblings; Pedro, Maria, Jesus, Ramon, Antonia, Enrique and Carmela and survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Procession to follow to St Joseph Cemetery.
