Mark Jacobson

Mark Douglas Jacobson, 63, child of the Living God and proud son of Texas, would like everyone to know that his work here is done. On Saturday, January 16, 2021, he got a higher offer than he’s ever had, and being a man of action, he took it. Born in Harlingen, Tx on March 15, 1957, Mark was an exemplary son, the firstborn of his mother and father, beloved, cherished and a joy to them all of his days. He is the oldest sibling to two brothers and two sisters, all of whom love him fiercely, and deeply enjoyed a shared childhood of annoying the snot out of him. While growing up, his siblings often sought his undivided attention, which usually provoked shenanigans up to and including the occasional minor injury, as well as the best hugs. As adult siblings, they are proud of the man he became, and knew he had their backs. His “bonus” sisters and brothers (sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law) have come to know him as a true brother and friend. He was a loving, tender husband that kept himself out of trouble (for the most part) by making Margie laugh, literally all the time, for he was and is her shining champion in so very many ways. Mark’s four children adore their dad and will never put that adoration in the past tense. He was and will always be their warrior-daddy, quick to love, eager to teach, with a protective streak akin to a grizzly bear, and just as dangerous if needed. He was a devoted and solid friend who would tell you what you needed to hear, not always what you wanted to hear, and deliver it laced with warmth and love, and if necessary, razor-sharp wit and sarcasm to help you get the point. Mark was a big man with a big heart, and a big work ethic. He was a hard worker whose likeness appears in the book of Nehemiah as one who “. . . did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, [he] wore his sword at his side as he worked.” (Neh 4:17-18). Meaning that he was an alert man in his family, work, prayer, friendship and fellowship – ready to defend, quick to respond, fearless and precise. You would never catch Mark off-duty in the guardianship of his family, figuratively or literally, as he was the gatekeeper that could always be relied on. Mark was an outdoorsman, hunter and guide, lover of a good story, high-quality hot coffee, John Wayne movies, and frosty winter mornings in a Texas deer blind. He was a talented dancer who could whisk his wife across the dance floor with grace and agility. A gifted wordsmith, his legendary hunting stories should be in a book one day, and will be a guaranteed best seller. He loved his Nanny’s pie and his Mamaw’s Finnish bread. He loved hunting with Papa and woodworking with Papaw. He loved his Mama and Daddy to the moon and back and let them know it. Most of all, he loved the Lord, and his family. Left to talk, laugh and remember him with great love in the quietness of our lives and at family gatherings until we meet again in Heaven are his parents, Wesley and Beverly Jacobson of Rock Island, Texas. His loving wife of 37 years, Margaret “Margie” (Sherman) Jacobson of New Braunfels, Texas. His children Tyler Harris Jacobson (Meagan) of New Braunfels, Joshua Caleb Jacobson of Jackson, Tennessee, Rachel Shayne Stickney (Chris) of Jackson, Tennessee, and Macy Danielle Jacobson of New Braunfels. Granddaughter, Lily Jacobson, and grandsons Hudson Stickney and Wyatt Stickney. Also remembering his strength, sense of humor, and tenderness with warmest love, and laughing out loud at the memory of his antics, are his siblings and his “bonus siblings,” Sandra Hicks (Jimmy), Melinda Jacobson, Craig Jacobson (Robin), Eric Jacobson (Millie), Ron Sherman (Anna), Randy Sherman, plus a whole lot of nieces, nephews, bonus nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends – dear, dear cherished friends too numerous to count who will miss him as much as we will. Mark’s untethering from the earth has left a hole in our lives that will never be filled except with tearful memories and laughter he helped plant there. One day . . . The family asks that if you want to give to a deserving charity in lieu of flowers, make a donation in Mark’s memory to one of his favorites – the orphanage of White Stone Ministries, either by check sent to: WHITE STONE MINISTRIES, 807 B Veterans Blvd., Del Rio, Tx 78840 or online at www.whitestonekids.org/donate .

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Mark was my banter buddy at Basic IDIQ. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He was always a pleasure to talk to. My heart is breaking for his dear family. He often spoke so lovingly about them all. He will be dearly missed. My prayers and thoughts are covering them for peace and healing.

  2. In Loving Memory of Mark Jacobson… -the Hughes Kids’- Denise (Graves), Theresa (McCabe), Paula (Lancaster) & Marc Hughes

  3. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

  4. As one of the youngest cousins, I can say that Mark was never too big for us. He always took the time to acknowledge us, and make us feel included. I’m torn, torn between sadness and grief, over the giant hole his absence causes, and joy, over things I can only imagine, knowing where, and with whom, he now calls home. I love you, Mark, from one of the ‘little people’.

  5. Margie, Tyler, Josh, Rachel & Macy, We are so very sorry for this heartbreaking loss. We love you all so much and pray for God’s peace to cover you.
