Michael Andrew Oldham

Michael Andrew Oldham, 63, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 19, 2021. Born on September 15, 1958 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Michael and Astrid Oldham. Michael is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan Konkal Oldham; children, Hayden (and Ayako), Katie, Lauren (and Travis), and Max (and Olivia); siblings, Cynthia and John; and mother, Astrid Oldham. Michael grew up in Maryland and Hawaii in a military family. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a degree from the McCombs School of Business. Through three decades of dedication and innovation, he "made his mark" in the food services industry, as Austin developed its unique culinary scene. Mike lived a sports-laden life – loving all sports through his time spent as an athlete, coach, and fan. He grew up playing baseball and tennis and went on to play NCAA Division 1 tennis at the University of Texas. He was a devoted father and coached his children in soccer. His 3v3 team, Tsunami, earned a spot at the National Competition at the Disney Wide World of Sports. He was also known to play a mean game of knockout basketball in the driveway. He enjoyed watching all sports events on TV or in-person. You could always count on him to know the latest scores and statistics, cheering on his favorite teams the University of Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs. He valued his children’s education and supported them along the way, taking time to read an entire calculus chapter to help with a single math problem and by fostering values of dedication, intellectual curiosity, and a continual desire for self improvement; values that persist in his children’s lives today. If he wasn’t watching sports, he was surely watching a cooking show. You could find Mike in the kitchen or outside at the grill as a chef extraordinaire. He loved to cook up his favorite meals from scratch, experimenting with flavors and spices to make the perfect combination. He would spend hours researching a specific recipe or selecting the perfect ingredients to match his vision for the dish. He could tell you everything in a dish just from a single taste. Mike always had deliberate intention in all that he did. He was detail-oriented, the man with a plan, and cared about the implementation of each step from beginning to end. He was an avid reader with his bookshelf as full as his imagination, featuring stories of fantasy, mysteries, and inspiring historical events or biographies. He could create the ultimate bedtime story or a full treasure hunt adventure complete with illustrations in an instant, drawing on his love of reading and creativity. He was a man with love for the simple things in life. Most recently, he enjoyed relaxing with Susan, in Canyon Lake, cooking up a delicious meal, while watching the birds frolic on their many bird feeders in the backyard. He was so very loved and will be dearly missed. A private family memorial service will be held on January 2nd, 2022.
