Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 , 2022 at College Mound United Methodist Church, 14490 FM 429, Terrell, Texas under the direction of Lux Funeral Home of New Braunfels. Service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church with Ron Brandenburger officiating with graveside service following. After graveside service, friends are invited for hugs and food at the Fellowship Hall. Mac was born September 23, 1942 in Terrell, Texas to Erma Lou McLemee Brockway and the Rev. Olen D. Brockway. Mac was named Nolan (after his dad’s twin) and Mac (after his dad’s nephew Billy Mack Keene, a Marine killed on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor). Mac grew up in Elmo, Texas where his dad was pastor of Elmo Baptist Church. Mac enjoyed walking barefoot to a nearby pond for fishing and swimming. This is where he was baptized by his dad when he was thirteen. He attended Elmo School and earned money in the summer by picking cotton. When Mac was 13, the family moved to Terrell, Texas and Mac met a lifelong friend his age right down the street, Fred Duke. They both enjoyed basketball and Mac’s career choice of being a chemist was sparked by his teacher and Coach Charles Lea. After graduating high school in 1960 from Terrell, Texas Mac earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Arlington State College in 1964 and Doctor of Philosophy from University of Oklahoma in 1970 . He briefly taught Organic Chemistry at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas before joining SMC Technology as Lead Chemist of water treatment, where he worked from 1971 to 2013 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Mac met the love of his life, Judie Jones, when they were teenagers. They went their separate ways for many years as Mac pursued college and a career. Valentine’s Day 1982 Mac and Judie wed. Judie managed the home, children, church and working for many years. The past several years she has been the sole caretaker of her husband, who declined as Parkinson’s disease ravaged his body. As a beloved dad, grandfather and uncle, babies and children always brought him joy. Poppa Mackie did magic tricks (penny behind the ear) and told bedtime stories with a moral (love God, love others and tell the truth) and about growing up in Elmo. Mac was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Louise Brockway and brother Marshall Ray Brockway. Survivors include his wife, Judie; sons Dr. John (Holly) Brockway and Corey Roberson, of Denver, Colorado; daughters Becky (Ron) Brandenburger and Ashley (Adam) Bruchas, all of New Braunfels, Texas; and grandchildren Emry, Haddie, Beau and Hall Brandenburger (Becky and Ron). Kaeley and Sarah Roberson (Corey). Mackenzie and Nathaniel Brockway (John and Holly). Elle Grey, Clare Bear and Lyla (Ashley and Adam). Three sisters; Ghita (Keith) Carter of Georgetown, Texas, Margery Powell of Mesquite, Texas and Ruthanne Brockway of Lewisville, Texas, sister-in-law Nancy Brockway of Lumberton, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks the doctors, nurses, physical therapists and Hope Hospice for the countless moments of triumph they provided during a difficult journey. 1. We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Lux Funeral Home & Cremation Services

  2. Mac will always be one of my favorite persons. I truly enjoyed working alongside him. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss.

  3. When I began working at SMC Technologies in October of 1990, it was all new to me as I had been a processing geophysicist in the oil industry for 10 years for Phillips Petroleum and Amoco Production. I was so fortunate to have Dr. Mac as a mentor/ trainer. He was an excellent teacher and was very patient while training others. All of the employees at SMC greatly benefitted from the patient teaching quality of Mac. He has been greatly missed at SMC as we have somehow managed to continue on. Of course his legacy is in part the excellent products that he developed as technical director of SMC. They continue to perform well in industry even many years after they were developed. Congratulations Dr. Mac, the one who wrote all the chapters in our lives is now your keeper. You will be missed by all. God bless you, Mac. Thank you Mac from Steve Lile

  4. Mac always had smile on his face. Was a great husband to Judy and great Dad to his kids. Always gave encorage meant to everyone!
