Pedro Cantu, Sr., a resident of New Braunfels, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Kirkwood Manor at the age of 86. Pedro was born on May 13, 1926 in Laredo to Meliton Cantu and Maria Rangel Cantu. He later married Teresa Cantu, who preceded him in death July of 2005. Mr. Cantu was a self-employed painter for most of his professional career. Pedro was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include his sons, Pedro Cantu, Jr., Rudy Cantu and wife, Cindy and Dionicio Cantu; daughters, Irene Gutierrez and husband, Tino and Rosie Villarreal and husband, Reyes, Jr.; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Don Schwarting-Celebrant. Interment of Mr. Cantu's cremains will immediately follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Kirkwood Manor Activity Department, 2590 Loop 337 N., New Braunfels, TX 78130.

Primos y Primas, I’m really sorry we didn’t attend the funeral but we were not advised. Tio Pedro was a great man. I loved hearing his stories and always listened to his advice. I will always remember him and his cheerful spirit. I pretty sure he had a temper (They didn’t call him “El Becerro” for nothing) but I never saw him mad. Your parents will forever be in my heart. I worked at Kirkwood Manor for 3 1/2 years and had the honor and pleasure of knowing and taking care of Mr. Cantu. He was a wonderful man and always made me smile. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and I will miss him. I will never eat Pan Dulce again without thinking of him and smiling. God Bless you.
