Ralph Wayne Haney, 78, passed away February 11, 2018, in Canyon Lake, Texas following a lengthy, courageous battle against illness. Wayne was born to Ralph and Velma McGehee Hanvey of Huntsville, Alabama on October 29, 1939. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel Logan Hanvey, a son David (Merechel) of San Antonio, Texas, and two daughters, Donna and LIsa of Canyon Lake, Texas. Additionally, he is survived by nine grandchildren, and a sister, Theresa Fallwell of Katy, Texas. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive this favorite uncle. Wayne grew up in Huntsville and New Market, Alabama. He was in the first graduating class of Buckhorn High School in 1959. Following graduation, he joined the Huntsville Fire Department where he served for ten years. He continued his career in the heating and air conditioning industry in Alabama and California, and moved to Texas upon retirement. Wayne was active in his church where ever he lived and tenets of his faith were evidenced in community involvement. He was generous, kind, and quick to help anyone. His demeanor evidenced humor and concern for others even in very difficult personal circumstances. In addition to loving his family and making the best peach ice cream ever, he was an avid fisherman and plied the waters of the Tennessee River and the lakes of northern Alabama. A youth spent on his McGehee grandparents’ farm translated into a lifelong love of gardening he shared with his wife. His passion for the Alabama Crimson Tide was unparalleled. No matter where he lived he followed his team and vigorously rooted for them. He also loved to travel and was ready to head out at a moment’s notice with love for his Alabama home beckoning him frequently. Wayne was a man of excellent character who enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. A celebration of his life, a memorial service, will be held on March 3, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at the La Quinta Bluebonnet Room, 17650 Four Oaks Lane, Schertz, Texas 78154. Condolences may be sent to La Quinta or directly to the family.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My condolences to the Hanvey families. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of dear Ralph. Some Bible scriptures that have helped me during times of loss include Isaiah 26:19 and Psalm 37:28,29 which states in part: “Your dead ones will live…They will rise up”. And the Bible also says “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will forever reside upon it”. Therefore the Bible promises that we may be reunited with our loved ones lost in death by means of an earthly resurrection. This is further confirmed by John 5:28,29 which says “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”. This is possible thanks to Jesus Christ’s ransom sacrifice. Thus we have a genuine hope of everlasting life in a world without wickedness or suffering. I hope that these scriptures will be of some comfort to you.

  2. We will always have fond memories of “Wayne” and his beloved wife Hazel. What a wonderful STONE SOUP party the first time we were entertained in their home. How can we ever forget the camping trip to Lake Mathis, and all of the marvelous times we had with Wayne and our brothers and sisters in Christ. Wayne was nothing but an encouragement and a delight. His last years here on earth were not easy, we pray he has comfort in the bosom of the Lord.

  3. My sweet brother, my life-time protector, how I yearn to hear your voice and share childhood memories. They say the price of love is grief and my love for you was endless and I fear my grief will be also.
