Sean Han Gilbert, a resident of Schertz, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 in Austin at the age of 44. Born November 29, 1973 in Seoul, Korea, in the spring of 1984 the family moved to the suburbs of Washington D.C. As an Air Force brat, Sean moved 5 times in 7 years and, in addition to Annandale, VA lived in Alabama, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida. While living in Pennsylvania, he became interested in architecture and construction and volunteered with the local Habitat for Humanity. In 1991, Sean attended Gulf Breeze High School in Florida graduating in 1992. A natural athlete, Sean played baseball, basketball and football during his junior high and high school years. He went to the Florida state championships as a shot putter placing third. After graduating high school, Sean traveled the country, dabbling in a variety of trades. In all his travels, he never met a stranger and literally would give the shirt off his back for someone in need. Sean eventually came back to San Antonio, TX to be closer to his family. He loved the outdoors and so, not surprisingly, developed a love of construction and heavy construction equipment. Over an eight-year period, Sean became a construction superintendent with M&M Contracting based in San Antonio. He was a smart, strong and dedicated worker who loved what he was doing from sunup to sundown. Some of his more notable projects with M&M included the site work for the HEB Plus in New Braunfels, the San Antonio Convention Center expansion, and the Alamodome Renovation in addition to numerous smaller projects across Texas. Sean leaves behind his loving wife, Christina; their daughter, Allison Nickole Han Gilbert; parents, Colonel (ret) Rusty and Jin Gilbert; and his sister and her family, Hanna and James Fuentes, and children, Robert and Emily. A celebration of Sean’s life will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel in New Braunfels. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to keep Allison in the Pinnacle Montessori School, 19730 Bulverde Rd, San Antonio, TX 78259 (210.494.8900) or the San Antonio Food Bank (www.safoodbank.org). A fundraiser has been established through YouCaring to help cover medical expenses associated with Sean's accident.
