Stephen Louis Phillips

Stephen Louis Phillips born on March 1,1948 in Gladewater, Texas. Steve, who resided in Canyon Lake with his wife Chris, was called home by the Lord on September 29, 2021, at the age of 73. Steve grew up in a military family and lived in places like Hawaii, Las Vegas, and then back to Texas. He worked in banking and the oil field, as management in the restaurant and hospitality fields, but was an entrepreneur at heart. In 1996, he combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his love of the ocean and became a Master SCUBA Instructor. He loved getting to share his love for water and all its hidden treasures with others. However, he found his true calling when he began helping individuals that face physical limitations on land break those barriers and find their freedom in the water. He assisted in allowing for these dear friends of his to have experiences in the ocean many never dreamed possible. Steve was an amazing cook and was a pit master when it came time to fire up the smoker for a brisket. He kept family traditions alive through food and wrote several cookbooks for his family (which didn’t stop them from calling him to ask how to make a special dish). He was a storyteller, his favorite stories included the adventures he and his brother Mike had on the beach in an old Volkswagen. Steve enjoyed spending time fishing, reading, playing cards, and drawing. His favorite doodles were horses, Clippity and Clop. Most of all Steve cherished time with his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren were the greatest joys in his life, and he was incredibly proud of each one of them. Steve is proceeded in death by his parents, Louis Leon “Lonnie” Phillips and Betty Lea Phillips. He is survived by his brother Mike (Debbie) Phillips, his wife Christina Phillips, son Travis (Casey) Phillips, daughter Jenny (Paul) Goodwin, son Michael Cash Phillips, son James (Sabrina) Phillips, and 12 grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the beach. As a self-proclaimed water bug, Steve would not have it any other way.
