Thomas (Jack) Smallman passed away on October 21,2022. Born in Calumet City, Illinois, raised in East Chicago, Indiana, graduated from Roosevelt in 1948. Started as an Electrician at Inland Steel shortly thereafter. He took a two year backpacking trip to Korea with the USMC returning back to Inland’s #2 Open Hearth. Met and married his wife Joan in 1954, she is from South Chicago , four children resulted. In 1960 he transferred the Inland Steel’s brand new Ingot Mold Foundry on the promise of lots of overtime, that worked out, his family lived well. He owned a nice home and apartment building in Hammond, Indiana. He retired in 1986 and began “flipping” houses. From 1986 until recently he and his wife lived in Wisconsin (4 times), Florida, Kentucky, Arizona and Arkansas; they had fun and made a few bucks. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and traveler. Together they experienced Asia, Europe and Scandinavia. He was additionally active in the Marine Corps League, the American Legion and the VFW. A life well lived.
