Vera Beatrice Langford

Vera Beatrice "Bea" Langford passed from this life on 29 August 2013 in New Braunfels, TX, into the glory of God's Kingdom. Bea was born August 1930 in Palo Pinto County in the community of Brazos to Otis E. and Alyne Ford Rucker. She was the second child in the family, with two brothers and two sisters. Bea graduated from Santo High School, and then attended Weatherford College in the summers of 1947-1952. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in Ft. Worth, TX, in 1954 with her teaching certificate. She was an elementary school teacher for 19 years at the following schools: Los Fresnos, TX, (7 years); Odem, TX, (1 year); Kingsville, TX, (4 years); and New Braunfels, TX, (3 years) at Carl Schurz Elementary under Principal Curt Schmidt, who hired her immediately after a 15-minute interview. Bea also substituted for 4 years under Principal Carlton Donop at Carl Schurz Elementary. She married James F. Langford from Mertens, TX, in 1954. She is survived by her husband James (Jim) F. Langford; daughter, Bonnie Bea Langford Schmidt; son-in-law David G. Schmidt; grandchildren, John, Jamie, and Jewel (all of Maryville, TN); son John W. Langford; daughter-in-law Holly D. Langford; grandchildren Michelle and Stephanie (all of San Antonio, TX). Bea stressed the importance of higher education to both of her children, with Bonnie graduating from Texas A&M and John graduating from the University of Texas. From the 1970s through 1990s, Bea was very active in the New Braunfels United Methodist Church and the Blue Birds Women's Club serving on many committees and boards. She made sure the family regularly attended church. Bea also had a lifetime membership in the Parent Teacher Association, and served as President for several years. Donations or memorials should be made to the charity of one's choice or to the Alzheimer's Association. No memorial service is planned at this time.
