Verna Mae Dean, a life-long resident of New Braunfels, passed away at home on Sunday evening, December 4, 2022, at the age of 96. Verna was born on November 20, 1926 in Guadalupe County to the late Louis Boenig and Olinska Wetz Boenig. She graduated as a New Braunfels High Unicorn in 1944. Verna had 2 great loves, her family and Beta Sigma Phi, her sorority. She was an original member of NB’s first Beta Sigma Phi chapters- Zeta Iota. This was in 1946. She has been an active member for 76 years. She dedicated her life to her sorority and to her community. She was a NB Garden Club member, a NB “Jayceette” before women were allowed in the Jaycees, and an avid church member of First Protestant Church since 1927. She spent most of her career with NBU & in banking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Olinska Boenig. Survivors include her two sons, Paul Dean and wife, Vanessa and David Dean; grandchildren, Brandon Dean, Zachaery Dean and Gracie McGrew. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday morning, December 9, 2022 at First Protestant Church with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the funeral service. The funeral procession will depart First Protestant Church at 12:30 PM for a 1:00 PM committal service at Lone Oak Cemetery in Seguin. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Protestant Church in Verna’s name.
