Ann Taylor Steckler passed away on July 5th at her home in New Braunfels, TX. She was 72 years old.
Ann was born on February 13th, 1952 in Sweetwater, TX, to William Robert Taylor and Florene Jones Taylor. She graduated from Stephenville High School, where she was a National Merit Scholar. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Abilene Christian University, took masters level music classes at Texas Tech University, and eventually earned a Master of Music from the University of Houston. Ann worked in education for 38 years, as an Elementary Music & Choir teacher, and as a Middle School Band Director, sharing her love of music with thousands of students along the way.
Ann met the love of her life, Alan Kent Steckler, also a Music major, in 1973 while attending Abilene Christian University. They married in 1974, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together in March 2024.
Ann was known for her quick wit, work ethic, and love of family.
Her hobbies included reading, playing in a community band with Alan, and spending time with her granddaughter Madison. She was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed diving with Alan for over 40 years.
Ann is survived by her husband Alan, their son Cory Alan Steckler and his wife Sarah Williams Steckler, a granddaughter Madison Taylor Steckler, and by her sisters, Susan Taylor and Sharon Weisser. She was preceded in death by her father William Robert Taylor, her mother Florene Taylor and her brother Milton Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 13th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Timmermann Homestead in New Braunfels, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Diamond Dachshund Rescue, to recognize Ann’s passion for rescuing animals or to the County Line Community Band, of which both she and Alan were members.
Ann left behind a legacy of family and friends who will miss her deeply.
