Audrey M. Collopy, 84, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 29, 2025, at home, surrounded by four generations of family at her bedside. Born February 5, 1941, in Mars, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Theodore W. and Ellen E. Campbell Fuhr. Audrey was a member of the Class of 1959, Mars Area High School. She worked for a time in the Mars area for Howard Johnson Corporation before joining the U.S. Navy, where she trained as a member of the Elite Hospital Corps. While stationed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA., in 1962, she met her husband James R. Collopy, whom she married on October 5, 1963. Shortly after that she left the military to travel the world as a Navy wife and raise a family! Following retirement from the Navy, the Collopy family settled in Colorado where Audrey worked in the insurance industry. Retiring once again in 2004 Audrey and Jim moved to the Hill Country of Texas. Settled in, she got busy planning their next trips and/or adventures in their motor home always looking to make new friends.
Audrey came from a large family of 5 sisters, 2 brothers and many nieces and nephews, which accounted for the love she had for family and friends alike. There were those who she called family by choice, not blood. She loved animals of all kinds, once having a raccoon for a pet. She supported many charities that assisted them. Never a stray did she not keep. And if you knew her you knew what a crazy talented artist she was. She sewed the most amazing clothing, crocheted, embroidered, knit, latch hooked, painted ceramics, quilted, and so much more, but most of all she loved to color, even before adult coloring books were a thing! Audrey was coloring beautiful pictures right up to the end. And then there was Disney! She visited Disney World at every available opportunity. She loved the Princesses and the parks! She will be missed dearly by all. Health issues had held her back from doing the things she loved, but now she can Fly-Free!
Audrey is survived by her husband James; mother of Kathleen Collopy Miller (Douglas) of Monument, Colorado, and James R. Collopy Jr. (Brandy) of New Braunfels; Grandmother of Andrew Miller (Natalie) and Sarah Miller; Step Grandmother of Teigen Reynolds; and Great-grandmother of Eliana Miller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Sarah Jane Peaco (Melvin), Eleanor E. Morris (Robert), Edith E. Wills (Robert), Lila Jean Dunbar ((Wm. Grant), Theodore C. Fuhr (Rebecca), Eileen E. Vogel (Jerome), William E. Fuhr (Charlotte), a son Theodore E. Collopy, and a Grandson James L. Miller.
A private service was held for family members, concluding with a folded flag ceremony, as Audrey was a Navy Veteran. She chose cremation with interment later. Her favorite Charities were St. Judes Children’s Hospital and Animal Rescue Shelters.
