Belva J. Mitchell, 77, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in New Braunfels, Texas. Born on June 11, 1949, in Charlotte, Texas, to Wilbur and Eula Jones, Belva lived a life marked by devotion, quiet strength, and a deep love for her family.
Belva spent her earliest years on the family farm, where she cherished every moment spent alongside her father. Those days working beside him, learning from him, simply being in his presence, became some of her most treasured memories. After his passing, the family relocated to south San Antonio, where Belva built the foundation of her adult life. She attended McCollum High School, graduating in 1967, and soon began her career journey.
Belva worked briefly in retail at Globe before beginning what would become a 30+ year career with Southwestern Bell and AT&T, retiring in 2009. Her dedication, reliability, and genuine care for others made her a respected colleague and a steady presence throughout decades of change. Retirement didn’t slow her down she spent nine additional years with Clarke American Checks in customer service, where she continued doing what she loved most: helping people.
Belva’s life was rich with friendships, laughter, and countless shared stories. She treasured time spent with her close friend Gail Conrey and many others, reminiscing about their youth and the adventures that shaped them. She loved road trips of any kind whether planned or spontaneous and found joy in simply getting out to see something new. If the trip included enchiladas, all the better.
In her later years, Belva moved to New Braunfels to be closer to family and enjoy a quieter pace of life. She found comfort in being home, surrounded by the familiar things she loved and the companionship of her beloved cats.
Belva deeply loved her family. She carried that love with her every day, and it remains with those she leaves behind. Though she will be missed beyond measure, her memory lives on in the stories, traditions, and love she poured into her family. We take comfort knowing she is now in her heavenly home, reunited with loved ones and held forever in the arms of God.
Belva is preceded in death by her father Wilbur Jones, mother Eula Lee Jones, sister Linda Jones Osbourne, and grandson Michael Mitchell Jr.
She is survived by her son Michael Mitchell and wife Brandy Mitchell; grandchildren Shelbie Mitchell, Mackenzie Mitchell, Haylie Mitchell, Jimmie Bilbrey, and Shelby Huffnagle; great‑grandchildren Starla Bilbrey, Natalie Faulkner, and Levi Faulkner; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM.
