Benita L. Martinez, aged 80, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 18, 2014, in New Braunfels, Texas. Mami died peacefully in her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born to the late Feliciano and Juanita Lagunas on March 22, 1934. Benita lived most of her life in New Braunfels, Texas with her adored and late husband Gilberto H. Martinez, Sr. She was known to family and friends as "Mami." Benita spent the majority of her employment years at the New Braunfels Smoke House. Mami's most precious possession was her family. The family will always remember our beloved mother and grandmother for the love and warmth she gave us with her bright smile, home cooked meals, and beautiful flower garden.
Mami is survived by her nine children, daughter Yolanda Martinez and Joe Torres, son Ignacio Martinez and wife Esther, son Gilberto Martinez, Jr. and wife Sylvia, daughter Sylvia Moreno and husband Juan, daughter Teresa Lopez and husband Juan, son Roland Martinez and wife Corina, daughter Alicia Crespo and husband Rick, son Rafael Martinez and wife Elizabeth, and son Armando Martinez and wife Raquel. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, siblings Jose Lagunas, Juan Lagunas, Francisco Lagunas, Mary Rosales, Jimmy Lagunas, and also survived by her brother-in-law Reynaldo H. Martinez, Sr. and wife Felice, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mami is preceded in death by her parents Feliciano and Juanita Lagunas, sister Flora Gonzales, brothers Jesus and Feliciano Lagunas, Jr., and beloved husband Gilberto H. Martinez, Sr.

Getting to know the Martinez family through our friendship with Mando & Raquel over the past 13 years, it was very apparent the importance placed on family.
