December 15, 1932 ~ February 25, 2017
Birl Wilson Stockton, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, February 25th, 2017.
Birl was born December 15, 1932 to Guy and Carrie Mae Stockton in Karnes City, Texas. Birl was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters, infant daughter Cynthia Ann, son Brent Allen, and most recently wife of 63 plus years, Gerdine Helen (Boelter) Stockton. He is survived by daughter Joy (Stockton) Merz Shronce, son Brian "B.K." Stockton and his wife Rachel (Urias) Stockton, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Birl is also survived by two sisters, Tommie Lou (Stockton) Dougan and Imagene (Rhodes) Hobbs, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Birl retired as a Tech Sergeant in the Untied States Air Force in May of 1971. He went on to retire from Motorola Inc. in Seguin, Texas and also retired from Parkview Metal Products in San Marcos, Texas.
Birl, also affectionately known as "Peanut", "Shorty", and his sisters referred to him as "Bubba", was known for his joke telling. He would always start out with "Did I tell you the one about?", it didn't matter if you said "Yes you did", he was going to tell you anyway.
Birl's bride, Gerdine lost her fight with cancer December 30th, 2016. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on February 4th, 2017. It is believed he died of a broken heart because in less then two months of losing his wife he followed her in death. Birl had said he was supposed to go first, that she was a good woman. They will now celebrate their life together for eternity.
Birl and Gerdine will be laid to rest together on Friday, March 17th, 2017 at 10:15 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road in San Antonio, Texas.
