Cledith "C.R." Pope, 64, of New Braunfels, TX passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at home. Born on February 26, 1949 in Clarksville, TX, he is the son of Thelma Varner Pope and the late Cledith Pope.
C.R. is survived by his wife, Patsy S. Pope; son, Patrick Pope; sister, Julie Carter and husband Vernon Carter.
He was an avid reader, loved nature, and community with friends. His laugh was infectious and his intellect was superior, matched only by his genuine interest in friends, knowledge, and new experiences. Kind to all, C.R. embraced those that needed love in the times they needed it most. Seeing the magic in "this great and mysterious life" he never doubted that all will be well and lead through encouragement. Hyper-Aware of the best moments in life he was never short on cheer, a smile, and humor. A free man that was loved for his spirit and brilliance. "Let's Party" is a classic C.R. quote. After crossing over you can bet he has set up an area in the shade for us all to gather in laughter and celebration.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, 373 Howard St., New Braunfels. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, 373 Howard St, New Braunfels, TX, OR to Hope Hospice, 611 N Walnut Ave, New Braunfels, TX.

Our hearts are broken and we will love and miss CR forever. We know he is in God’s hands and we are thankful he will suffer no more. CR was a wonderful son, brother and friend who can never be replaced. Our thoughts and prayers are with Patty and Patrick. Thelma Pope (Mother), Julie Pope Carter, (Sister) and Vernon Carter ( Brother-in-Law).
Patty – Many warm thoughts and prayers are with you and Patrick. We never want to give anyone up but know that CR is at peace and pain free.
My life long friend will be missed until we meet again.
Mr. Pope was such a lovely person, his laughter, smile and presence in a room was one of a kind. He simply exuded joy, love and happiness. Every time I was home he reminded me that the love of life, every moment and every person, was important. I will carry his memory and lessons with me forever. CR will be deeply missed. I was very grateful to have known a great man as him . He was an awesome person. He brighten my day ever time he came in the office.

Patty: Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Patrick. I am so grateful that I got to know CR and be involved in his care over the last 2 years. Patty, My thoughts and prayers go to you and Patrick during this time. CR was such a neat man and will be so missed. I know there is not much to say that helps, but it does get better (a bit)! Maybe he and Jer can meet and “party!”
Patty – My prayers go out to your family. CR was a good man who I remember as always smiling with a humorous twinkle in his eyes. CR, Patrick, and I had many good times when we all hunted together at the ranch in Fischer, TX. He will be missed, yet remembered as one of the good guys.
CR was a special person whom everyone loved. His humor was boundless. One of the funniest things I remember (and there were many) was his love of bargains like the time he bought a “shed” to put in backyard! That was a special laugh for Patty and me! We love you, CR and you will be missed but we know you are now without pain and are in a better place. God Blessed us all with your presence.

Patty and Patrick, again I want to express my deepest sympathy to you both. In CR’s picture he looks just like I remember seeing him the last time I saw him, here in Jeffersonville, Indiana at the Court House (hat and all). CR is at rest now and no longer in pain. Dear Pope Family, My sincere condolences on the passing of C.R. It has been many years since we have seen each other but my thoughts and prayers are with you. C.R.’s legacy will fill many hearts with joy and love.
Some of the best times in my life were spent with C.R. and Patty. C.R. always saw the silver lining and brightest star in every circumstance. With a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin, he made us feel extra special. And what a proud husband and father he was – so obvious Patrick was his light and joy and we all could see how much he loved and appreciated Patty. We’ll miss you, C.R., but we’ll remember always what a great guy you were! I’m so, so sorry – my most sincere and warmest condolences to Patty and Patrick.

Wow, what a guy! From sun burns at Port Aransas, to bird hunting in South Texas, to pot luck dinners at Riverbend, always genuine, with that belly laugh and eye twinkle, and recommendation on the latest book he was reading, our newly nicknamed friend, “Tom Bien”, will be so, so missed, but always loved and remembered. I will never forget the wonderful weekend when you hosted Amanda and I, along with Teresa. C. R. was such a great host and so much fun to be around. I could see immediately why your family was so special to Teresa and Gene. Every time I clean my glasses, I think of C.R.! He will always hold a place in my heart, and so will you and Patrick.

Patty and Patrick, We so wish we could have been at the Memorial Service. I’m sure you understand. If the service was anything like the obituary it must have been beautiful. It was a well deserved tribute. I loved that guy. God loves and so do I Patty.
