David Michael Barrientos, 58, passed away on February 28, 2026 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 3, 1967, to Cesario Barrientos and Mary Helen Rincon.
David graduated from John Marshall High School in 1985 and went on to build a long, dedicated career serving his community. He worked for San Antonio Water Systems for 13 years before joining AT&T, where he spent the next 24 years. Throughout his time with AT&T, his work took him to Harlingen, Austin, San Antonio, Seguin, and finally New Braunfels, where he formed many close friendships along the way.
An outdoor enthusiast at heart, David found joy in fishing, hunting, and golfing. Rockport, Texas held a special place in his life, and he especially cherished the moments spent teaching his children and grandchildren the basics of fishing and sharing his love for the outdoors with them.
David also had a passion for collecting sports cards and loved showing his collection to everyone. On weekends and holidays, he devoted himself to perfecting his craft of barbecue and was always excited to share his creations with family and friends. And if he wasn’t cooking it, he was likely visiting top barbecue joints and taking notes for inspiration.
Known for his friendly nature, generous spirit, and caring heart, David touched many lives. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
David is preceded in death by his father, Cesario; step father Herbert Ponce Jr. and grandmother Aurora Rangel.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Helen Ponce, his wife of 14 years, Nicolette Barrientos; his children, Michelle (Richard) Jauregui, Michael Barrientos; step-children, Julian Munoz, Jaime (Amber) Munoz, Jaclyn (Brian) Pena; grandchildren, Victoria Munoz and Asher Aguilar; and siblings, John (Sara) Barrientos, Cesar Barrientes, Glen (Melissa) Ponce, and Cindy (Alex) Alviar. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
