David Owen Eugene Summers II

August 31, 1977 ~ November 29, 2024
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Owen Eugene Summers II, who left us at the age of 47 due to colon cancer. David passed away peacefully on Friday November 29th, surrounded by family and loved ones.
David was born on August 31, 1977 in Austin TX, to David O.E. Summers and Melissa Gibson. From an early age, family and friends were often amazed at David’s many talents. David attended Dripping Springs High School where he played for both the football team and the marching band, switching his shoulder pads for quad drums during half-time. David also stood out in Track & Field, not only for his speed, but also for his enormous calves which earned him the nickname “Popeye”.
As much as David loved high school sports and band, he knew from an early age that he wanted to serve his country. As a Veteran of both the US Army and Navy, David proudly served three tours in the Middle East. In recognition of his honorable service, David received numerous awards and medals, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, as well as an Army Paratrooper Badge.
David will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor and the way he loved to evoke reactions with pranks and jokes. But one thing he never joked about was Longhorns football. His friends, on the other hand, never missed an opportunity to tease him for spending the first part of his life as an Aggies fan before coming to his senses and trading his maroon for burnt orange.
David married his beloved wife Rhonda Summers on July 19, 2003, and they shared 22 wonderful years together. In addition to his wife Rhonda, David is survived also by his children, Kylie Summers, Bryce Summers; his mother Melissa Gibson and step-father Donald Gibson, father David O.E. Summers and step-mother Trish Summers; siblings, Amanda Summers, Robert (Shinyi) Summers; step-siblings Dan Bauerle, Kathleen (Steve) Vernon, Scott (Sandy) Bauerle; his four German Shepherds Xander, Zarr, Max and Patriot. His family will miss his presence dearly and will forever cherish the memories they created together.

You are forever in our hearts and will be missed dearly. 💔 Until we meet again 🙏🏼 ❤️
Our deepest sympathy during this difficult time.
My husband, Paul and I, were fellow band nerds with David and his sister Amanda. David had a unique sense of humor and loved to joke around. He told me that he once used cats as target practice. I knew that he was ready to join the armed forces and we Thank You for your service, from one military family to another.
May the entire Summers family find peace in God’s loving and healing arms.
Paul and Melissa Frisinger & Family
David was a dear friend in high school. We were in the Dripping Springs marching band and also ran track together for several years. David was a constant source of encouragement and laughter for me on the band practice field and the track. I loved his dedication and loved watching him march halftime with the band in his football uniform. On camo dress up days in high school, he usually had the most epic costumes. It’s no surprise that he went on to serve his country. David was a friend to all and all who knew him loved him. We know that David will be missed but I know he leaves behind a legacy in his beloved wife, children and the memories we all have of him. Thank you for being a friend, David. We love you and are glad that you are no longer in any pain.
