Dennis Brown of Garden City, Kansas, age 78, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 at his home in Schertz, Texas. He was born May 12, 1945 in Abington, Pennsylvania, the son of Edna Mae Vollmer and Harris C. Brown. He spent his childhood years in Houston, Texas and his teen years in Columbia, South America. At 15, he attended Gordon High School until graduation then attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia. In 1965, Dennis found himself a small town in western Kansas (Garden City) to settle down. Dennis joined the United States Army Reserves from 1966 to 1972 as an infantryman. During his six year tenure, he attended and graduated Leadership Academy, then was selected to be a United States Army Drill Sergeant to train soldiers to deploy during the Vietnam Era; he completed his service as a Sergeant First Class (SFC). While living in Garden City, he met his wife, Delores Hermocillo and fell in love, they were married July 2nd, 1966 at St Mary Catholic Church. Dennis and Delores spent the next 40 years working and raising their family in Garden City, Kansas. He spent his career as a sales representative at Oswalt industries, Electron Weigh, C&S Cattle and Bowman Enterprises. He enjoyed the friendships and business dealings he had all over western Kansas, Panhandle of Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska. He enjoyed meeting with friends and family as a member of the GI Forum, Moose Lodge and St Mary’s Catholic Church. In 2002, Dennis and Delores moved to Texas were they eventually retired living in Abilene, Texas. Dennis enjoyed his retirement riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle all over Texas with his friends and family. Dennis was a member of the West Texas Harley Owners Group. He made 3 trips with his sons, brothers and nephews to Sturgis, South Dakota making a lifetime of memories. Dennis also enjoyed traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Delores, Dennis is survived by 2 brothers, Russell Brown (Carol) of Abilene, Tx, Zane Brown (Diana) of Emporia, KS; son Brian (Alicia) of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Lisa Little (Deon) of Montgomery, Illinois and Tina Mesa (Steve) of Lenexa, KS; Grandchildren, Christopher Brown, Erika Ales (Josh), Cecilia Brown, Anthony Brown, Arik Varela (Sarahi), Paige Ford, Abrielle Little, Ariella Mesa, Steven Mesa Jr; and 7 greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Harris; infant son Victor, infant daughter Melissa, son Roger Eric and granddaughter Alexandria Brown. Rosary will be Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at 9:30am with Funeral Mass following at 10:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church 509 St. John St, Garden City, Kansas, with Fr. Jacob Schneider officiating. Inurnment following Mass at Valley View Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at the Knights of Columbus, 205 N 8th, Garden City, KS.
