Duane Everett Babitzke, 89, of Canyon Lake, Texas passed away in Round Rock, Texas April 2nd, 2024.
He was born February 28, 1935 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Jacob and Edna Babitzke. His family moved to Lipscomb County Texas where he grew up farming. He graduated from Higgins High School in 1953 and then went on to attend Texas Tech University where he studied engineering.
He met his wife Dorothy on a blind date. He would spend many weekends traveling from Lubbock to Panhandle to sit on the courthouse lawn with “his girl.” They were married October 6th 1956 in Panhandle Texas. He spent most of his career working for the Bureau of Reclamation where he designed dams and other water projects in Texas and Arizona. In his free time Duane enjoyed designing and improving anything he could. Even building a beautiful gazebo for his wife.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, son Ricky Babitzke, sister Jolene Hightower and brother Delvin Babitzke.
He is survived by his daughter Lynette Smith and husband Mike of Leander Texas, Two granddaughters Courtney Strause and husband Adam of New Braunfels Texas and Amanda Hollingsworth and husband Mitchell of Firestone Colorado. Three great grandchildren Owen Strause, Claire Strause and Riley Hollingsworth, brother Dennis Babitzke and wife Linda of San Angelo, Texas. Also, many loved nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the friends and neighbors who have been there for him and Dorothy over the years. Words cannot express the gratitude for all their kindness.
Visitation will be held in New Braunfels Texas at Lux Funeral Home April 9th 2024 from 5-7pm.
Graveside services will be held for family in Edna Texas where Duane will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Dorothy and son Ricky.
