Edward Lee Hendry

Edward Lee Hendry, 81, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, November 29, 2024. He was born on June 6, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to Rosa Ramos Hendry and Doris Edward Hendry.

Ed found his perfect match in Gail whom he was married to for 34 years, but if you asked Ed, he would have said 44 years. Anyone who knew Ed knows he had a knack of adding a dramatic flair to any story. Ed was an avid story teller and that was one of his special gifts he inherited from his dad.

Ed attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches for 3 years; he was then drafted to the Vietnam War, where he proudly served as a Marine. During his time with the Marines he received the Presidential Unit Citation among other awards. After his discharge in 1969 he returned to SFA University where he completed his bachelor’s degree in business.

Ed retired from FedEx at age 66. He enjoyed his time there, where he valued connecting with his co-workers and the many customers who became lifelong friends. In life and especially in retirement Ed enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Road King in the hill country. After Gail joined him in retirement they took on a new love of Cruise ships and the Caribbean. Ed spent many years supporting Gail in her hobby of showing Chihuahuas. He was her biggest cheerleader and his support evolved into him becoming more involved in the dog show sport himself as an AKC judge. He was a member of the Texas Chihuahua Club where he served as President for many years. He was also a member of the Chihuahua Club of America, Comal KC, and the Mission City Stewards Club.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Gail (Cherry) Hendry, his sons Jason Hendry and wife Jennifer, Steven Davis and wife Stacey, daughter Tiffany Rodriguez and husband Rego, and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Sue Womack and Sandy Marye, and his mother-in-law Jayne Cherry, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Hendry, Sherry Hendry, brother-in-law Bobby Marye, father-in-law William Paul Cherry and son Jeffrey Davis.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at 11:00am at Lux Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas.

  1. We are going to miss Ed’s unique sense of humor. Am so glad that you and Ed got to cruise together and visit lots of places you enjoyed. Also a partner in dog shows, you could always count on Ed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Gail, Taylor and I send our love and prayers to you and your family. Ed was a very special person. We love you my friend and are wishing you peace during this time

  3. Gail, I am so very sad to hear this awful news. Ed kept me always entertained as we rode the bikes together at Planet Fitness. He was such a charmer and I will miss him. God be with you during this time.

  4. Gail, I’m so sorry for your loss and I’m really enjoyed the short time I got to no this wonderful caring man. I didn’t think there was another man that loved there wife as much as I do mine, but boy was I wrong. We spent many days in the gym talking about Gail and how smart and tough and resourceful she is. We both are lucky men. Rest in peace my friend. And take care Gail.

  5. Gail, I’m so glad I was able to meet back up with Ed years ago in New Braunfels. It was also good to talk with him recently, he always made me smile. What a personality! Also enjoyed riding with both of you. Ed will surely be missed. So many memories of the entire family. His Dad, Mom and fishing behind their home. Love you Cousin!

  6. You will be missed here on earth by all that knew you. I know you have a special place in heaven after putting up with Gail all these years. Probably earned a big gold chair, a crown and a cape.
I know Gail will miss you the most.
