Edward William Burdick, known to most people as “Ned”, 78, passed away at his home in Canyon Lake, Texas on the evening of March 17, 2024.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 5:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6:30 PM at Lux Funeral Home, 1254 N Business Interstate Hwy 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130, ending at 8:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 25th at 2:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery where Air Force Honors will be rendered.

Ned was born on February 28, 1946, in Houston, Texas to Cathryn Bredendick Burdick and Frederick Allen Burdick. He was the second oldest of four children. Ned married Anna Groth at the age of 25 and together they had two boys: Patrick and Kyle. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on March 6th.

Ned was born to fly and his dream was to fly professionally from the time he was a little boy. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1964, and attended North Texas State University with his best friend, Ken Conwell, his freshman year. In 1965, his father took a job in Holland and this opened the door for Ned to study abroad at Loyola University in Rome, Italy for a year. Upon returning to the States Ned transferred to the University of Texas at Austin in 1966, where he met his dream girl, Anna Groth. After graduating from the University of Texas, he entered the Air Force to serve his country, achieving the rank of captain while flying C-141’s in the Vietnam War. After 4 years in the Air Force, he returned to Houston where he began his flying career, eventually flying for Eastern Airlines, and later, United Airlines. He retired from flying commercially as a Captain with United Airlines in 2006.

Ned’s hobbies were gardening, collecting classic cars, working on his plane, working on projects, and sharing his love for Peanuts cartoons. But his passion was his family: his wife, sons, and grandkids. He loved every one of them deeply and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He was a devoted Catholic Christian and loved the Lord deeply. He was active in the Catholic church his entire life and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Canyon Lake, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Cathryn Burdick, and his father, Fred Burdick. He is survived by his wife, Anna Burdick, his two sons, Patrick Burdick and his wife Kari Burdick, Kyle Burdick and his wife Brittney Burdick, his brother Steve Burdick and his wife Ann Burdick, his sister Janet Capitanelli and her husband Michael Capitanelli, his brother David Burdick, and his 7 grandchildren: Cana, Micah, Miles, Oliver, Charis, Asher, and Henry Burdick.
