GEORGE SAMUEL GARCIA, SR.
George S. Garcia, Sr., a life-long resident of New Braunfels, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon, September 11, 2024 at the age of 71. George was born on August 19, 1953 in New Braunfels to the late Roman Garcia and Eliza Gutierrez Garcia. He enjoyed cooking, loved to travel, and never met a stranger. George worked and retired from Symons as a welder to provide for his family. Although he had a 10th grade education, he encouraged his children to obtain their diplomas. George did not always have a smile on his face, but once you got to know him, you understood him. Growing up, George loved to swim, which earned him the nickname, “Mojarra.” George was a horse jockey for a brief period of time. During this time, he met the love of his life, Estela. George and Estela married on June 28, 1970. They shared a common interest in bowling and joined a league. Through his love of sports, George coached baseball and played softball. When they started a family, George continued to coach little league baseball, served as President of Babe Ruth league and coached softball. His greatest joy was supporting his children as they grew and participated in school sports. His devotion to New Braunfels Unicorns earned him The Silver Unicorn award in 1997. As their family grew, you would often see George and Estela cheering on their grandkids, great-grandkids and other family members from the sidelines. If there is anything to be said about premonition, Estela shared the following story about her “Stanley”. On Friday, September 6th, George and Estela enjoyed dinner at Sea Island and went on to attend the Wurst Bowl, which they have done year after year. On Wednesday, September 11th, George walked outside, sat in his usual chair with his loyal pet, Lola on his lap and enjoyed his environment as if he knew he would be called home that day. He was at peace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Eliza Garcia; two sisters, Blanche Aguillon and Maria G. Padilla and by his grandson, Michael Espitia; niece, Andrea “Annie” Valverde. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Estela Madla Garcia; children, George Garcia, Jr. (Samantha), Nina Espitia, Roland E. Garcia (Gina), Israel A. Garcia and Julianna Ortiz (T-Bone); grandchildren, Justin, Jade, Jacob, George, III, Ryan, Sabastian, Joshua, Reyna, Demmi, Caleb, Shawnee, Garavai, Gianna and Haven; great-grandchildren, Parker, Yoli, Roman, Avery and Ari. Baby Wyatt will be joining the family in October of 2024, along with Baby Malachi in 2025; brothers, Eleazar Gutierrez and Roberto Garcia (Dolores). In addition, George is survived by a sister, Dora Whittaker (Tom). Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary starting at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Justin, Ryan, Sabastian, Garavai, Caleb, T-Bone, Jay and Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua, Parker and George, III. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a reception will be held at the VFW Post 7110, 600 Peace Ave. in New Braunfels.
