Gilbert G. Aldana, a life-long resident of New Braunfels, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Sodalis Assisted Living and Memory Care in Buda at the age of 78. Gilbert was born on August 15, 1937 in New Braunfels to Ernest Aldana, Sr. and Inez Gonzalez Aldana. He later served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp from 1955-1958. Gilbert then served the citizens of New Braunfels locally with the New Braunfels Police Department for nine years, the Comal County Sheriff's Department for two years and the New Braunfels Fire Department for one year. He truly embodied the phrase, "To Protect and Serve." In addition, Gilbert was a "jack of all trades", owing and operating several local restaurants. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Aldana, Jr. and by his beloved granddaughter, Dezerey Rodriguez. Survivors include his loving wife of 55-years, Esperanza Aldana; daughters, Deborah Aldana-Elizalde, Denise Aldana and husband, Domingo Garza and Rachel Aldana; grandchildren, Vincent Rodriguez and wife Micaela, Brianna Elizalde, Garrett Rodriguez, Gabriel Rodriguez and Kaden Woolard; siblings, Robert Aldana and wife, Elida, Janie Cantu, Irene Castaneda and husband, Guadalupe; Gilbert's "special pollock friend", Marcia Frederick; sister-in-law, Mary Aldana; great-grandchildren, Isidro Patino, Felipe Patino, Mia Patino, (Frankie Patino), Sophia Rodriguez, Chris and Gabrielle Castilleja, Austen Rodriguez and Evan Rodriguez. A time to visit with the family will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial services will follow from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. A reception will follow the memorial service at 6:00 PM at the VFW Post 7110, located at 600 Peace Ave. in New Braunfels. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Hospice organization of your choice.

  6. My heart sings for Joy for Gilbert and cries for all of us that will miss him. If you ever met him you truly had a friend for life. From his loving eyes to his infectious smile, he spread happiness to everyone he was with. I will miss him but we haven’t “lost” him because I know right where he is. He is with Dez and Jesus and you can’t ask for a better welcoming committee than that! Not a “goodbye” just a “see ya in awhile” love ya Gilbert and Love my Aldana Family!

  18. To all the family- We were so sad to hear Gilbert passed away. I’ll never forget the trip Gilbert, Hope, Shawn and Rachel made to Midland so they could meet “Poppy”, my dad and Shawn’s grandfather before he died. It meant the world to me! And coming back to help us pack up our home when we sold it. Gilbert loved to talk (understatement) and we so loved coming to eat, visit and laugh. We never usually left without Hope’s hot sauce!!! We know you will miss him but we are so proud that knows everyone, remembers everything and had lots of family and friends to talk to now! God be with you everyday and hold those memories you each have close to your hearts…he will always be there with you! Love you all-

  27. My condolences to the Aldana Family I met Mr. Aldana and his family in the 70’s at Los Tacos restaurant during the CB era. Mr Aldan welcomed me and my friends Rey, Tudy and Jesse into their home and we hung out with Denise and Debbie. We had fun hanging out at the restaurant. I have great memories of him and his family and will never forget. He was a great person and it was an honor to have known a great and special friend and family.   38. Sorry, I just picked this up. I have such pleasant memories of Compadre Gilbert. We had such lovely times together with Comadre Hope. It seems the years slip by so quickly and of a sudden we are losing friends. Abe, Dan, Timi and Joseph did visit you in New Braunfels many years ago. I also saw you and your Mom at Timi’s wedding. Someday I wish to make a trip to Texas and will surely see your Mom. Blessings on your family and know that Compadre has always been in my hear.
