Gregory Richard Blome

Gregory Richard Blome lived a rich and abundant life filled with family, friends and adventures that took him all over the world.

October 3, 2025 at age 68, Greg peacefully passed away in his home in New Braunfels, Texas. The New Braunfels residence had the biggest benefit for longevity.

That benefit was being surrounded by the love of his family through the good days and the bad days.

It all began July 5, 1957 where he was born to Harlan and Madeline Blome in Bridgeport Nebraska. Greg attended Gering Nebraska public schools and graduated from Gering High School in 1975. In 1978 he married his High School Sweetheart Connie (Heilbrun and they enjoyed 51 years together, 47 of those being happily married.

In December 1979, he graduated from University of Nebraska – Lincoln with an Industrial Engineering degree. Casper, Wyoming in 1980 is where Greg began his career with Amoco where he became a Drilling Engineer. Denver and Houston were his next US bases where over the years he traveled to many countries on a rotational basis. Alaska, Former Soviet Union – not everyone can say they worked in Siberia, Norway, UK, and Argentina during the time Amoco still owned the company.

After the BP acquisition, Greg began rotating to Luanda, Angola in western Africa for 5 years of exploration drilling. Greg then received a family assignment to relocate to Luanda, Angola for 5 years. Greg returned to Houston and began rotating to Brazil.

Then his final job brought him back to the US working in Houston as the Gulf of Mexico Wells Operation Director. After a 35+ year career in drilling and completion engineering and management, Greg retired in July 2015.

Greg was proud to become a Father to Jason in 1980 and daughter Randee in 1983. He loved his children and always spent quality time with them ensuring that they would have a memorable childhood. His job had him rotating to different places or countries all year long so he wasn’t always home but he made up for it when he was.

The stories he brought back to share with them gave them a new perspective of the world. Jason and Randee joined us on trips to London, Bahamas, Hawaii and they travelled to Africa to join him on a South African safari.

Greg’s children were his greatest accomplishment and he was always proud of what they have achieved for themselves over the years. Their choices of Kyle and Felicia to add to the family were welcomed with open arms and lots of love. One of his biggest joys in his life was being blessed with his Granddaughter Lilly.

Greg had many hobbies to occupy his time: Woodworking, being a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, Beer making, Jeeping in the San Juan Mountains, hiking, vacations, photography, walking the dogs, reading, and watching movies.

His favorite spot was sitting on the back porch, taking in the view and listening to the river. Even cold weather didn’t deter him from enjoying the back porch – a tower heater helped warm the area. If it was raining he could enjoy listening to the rain while comfortably staying dry under the porch. Usually on the porch is where Greg visited with friends in person, by phone, text and video.

Going on safari in Africa was such a moving experience for Greg that he wanted to share that adventure with friends who were also interested. These journeys took him to Namibia, South Africa, Zambia to visit Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and Greg’s favorite Botswana. The wonders of the Okavango Delta in Botswana kept Greg longing to return.

Greg always wanted to share fun vacations with family and friends and this includes Disney World. He always had a strategy for getting around Disney World to ensure enjoying the most rides per the time we had in each park. Only a month prior to his passing he had been leading his whole family and extended family of Kyle’s brother Paul and his fiancé Jenn, through a week long DisneyWorld/Universal Studios vacation. Wonderful memories created on this trip will never be forgotten.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents Harlan and Madeline Blome; Father-In-Law Walter Heilbrun; In January 2026 his Mother-In-Law Marian Heilbrun; brother-in-law Gary Heilbrun, sister-in-law Mildred Heilbrun, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins, and Niece Mindi Heilbrun; Greg’s best friends since childhood: Steve Hollis, Jimmie Schoeneman, and Kelly Knotts.

Those left to treasure his memory are Connie (Heilbrun) Blome, his wife of 47 years. Son: Jason Blome (Felicia) and Granddaughter: Lilly Blome of San Antonio, TX; Daughter: Randee Brewer (Kyle) of Austin, TX. Brother: Norm Blome (Steph) of Parker, CO; Brothers-in-law Alan Heilbrun (Linda) of Gering, NE; Tom Heilbrun (Ranae) of Greeley, CO; Dennis Heilbrun (Alice) of Torrington, WY; Walter Heilbrun (June) of Bushton, KS and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in both Montrose, Colorado and New Braunfels, Texas.
