Herman Cecil Baggett
November 9, 1927 ~ January 31, 2015
Herman Cecil Baggett passed from this life on January 31, 2015. He was 87 years old. He was born to Mack Bonda and Ada (Taylor) Baggett on November 9, 1927 in Corsicana Texas. He grew up mainly in Crane, TX, then in McCamey, TX where his father worked for the Humble Oil Company. In his later years it was McCamey he referred to as home.
He graduated from McCamey High School in 1947, having previously dropped out and then returned to complete his diploma. His further education was in trade school for automotive mechanics. He met his wife Edna Clarice (Milner) in Odessa, introduced by his friend Ross who was her brother. Herman and Clarice were married November 18, 1950, thus they were married 64 years. Their first home was in Uvalde, TX where they attended the Church of Christ, and Herman was baptized in1951. They soon moved back to Odessa for several years, then to Houston, then to the countryside outside Seguin after a brief stay in San Antonio. They were at home in Seguin for 22 years.
Mr. Baggett worked for over 50 years as an auto mechanic. He had a very strong work ethic, never missing a day of work. His children and grandchildren know he was strong, persistent, and had a firm attitude against quitting. He had several interests and hobbies over the years, staying busy all the time. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, giving extra produce to his friends and neighbors. For several years he was very interested in fishing and learned to make his own bait casting fishing lures, working to carve, sand, paint, and test the swimming action in the bathtub, until they met his standards. After his retirement, he spent much time pursuing wood working. He enjoyed making toy guns, trucks, doll beds, desks, chests, and cabinets for many family members. He also loved listening to music and had an extensive record collection. His favorites were big band and western music.
He loved babies and small children, was happy being a grandpa, and the grandkids and great-grandkids loved him. Mr. Baggett is survived by his wife Clarice, their six children, Gary Baggett, Janet Kirkpatrick, Ann Phillips, Donald Baggett, Katie Benesch, and Glen Baggett and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, with two more expected soon. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Derrell and Joyce Baggett of Little Elm, TX, a niece and two nephews, several grand nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Mack, his sister Bonnie Ruth, and two grandsons, Richard Brill Kirkpatrick and Jayden Glen Baggett.
Memorial services for Mr. Baggett will be held at New Braunfels Church of Christ on Saturday February 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Instead of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or by mail to 225 N. Michigan Ave, Fl 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.

I’m saddened by the passing of Mr. Baggett. I didn’t know him personally but I know some of his awesome family. What I know of them tells me that he must have been a pretty good man with a strong character. He would be proud to know that the legacy he left behind is in good hands.
