James Louis Smith
October 7, 1956 ~ August 9, 2013
Scripture reading from the book of James 1:12
"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."
Born to Johnny and Florence Smith October 7, 1956 in Seguin, Texas. James passed into his Heavenly Fathers arms August 9, 2013 at home in Canyon Lake, Texas. He was 56 years old. In 1982 James married Nancy Brush of New Braunfels and during their 9-year marriage (on June 19, 1987) they were blessed with a child, Samuel Cole Smith.
Scripture reading from the book of Samuel 3:19 "And Samuel grew and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground."
James accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church in February 1983, where he served as an Usher and Sunday School Teacher. His greatest love and treasure is his son. When you saw James about town, Sam was usually with him. They enjoyed trips to the coast, going to movies, cruising around, working on home projects, laughing and making others joyous around them.
James second joy was Truck Driving. He began at age 17 while working on a crew building FM 306 to join with IH 35. He also worked for Tri-City Distributors, Parker Brothers, Ladshaw Explosives, Buckley Powder, and recently was so happy to join Komandosky Trucking where he drove his most favorite types of big rigs.
He had a strong devotion to family, who all knew him as "Louis". He was helpful, caring, and considerate. And without question a wonderful father.
James is preceded in death by his parents; Johnny and Florence, two sisters; Darlene and Linda, and a brother Donnie.
James is survived by his son Samuel; brothers Bobby, Billy, John and Randy (Betty); brother-in law Kevin; nieces Rebecca, Hannah, and Angela; nephew Travis. James also leaves many extended family members, dear friends, and his pet cat "Buster". James will be truly missed, yet remembered with great reverence for his hard work, kindness and happy nature.
James desire was to be cremated under the direction of Lux Funeral Home, New Braunfels.
A memorial service is scheduled in James' honor at 11AM Thursday, August 15, 2013 at First Baptist Church New Braunfels, 733 Cross St., officiated by Brother Gordon Hightower.
A reception will follow at the Christian Life Center.
You will always be in our thoughts and prayers Sam. Your father was a good man and loves you very much. We love you too and will be here for you.
Sam…..I lost track of your Dad when he moved away for a time. I had tried a couple of times to find him but with no luck. I’m so sorry about his death. My daughter and I were neighbors of his in CVMHP. I don’t know if you remember us or not. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was a great guy! Had a heart made of gold!
