Jerre W. Mackey

Jerre W. Mackey, age 87, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023 at his home in Marion, Texas surrounded by his three daughters.  Jerre was born in Houston, TX on Sept. 1, 1935 to parents Virginia Yax and Frederick Mackey.

Jerre served 2 years in the Army as a mechanic.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, he trained as a fire fighter.  He worked for the Houston fire department for 10 years at fire station 54, B shift, as a Pipeman and Ladderman.  After leaving the fire department in 1971 he worked for Eckerd Drugs and as a wrecker driver for Hollis Wrecker Service.  In 1981 he moved his family to Canyon Lake, TX.  He worked for Holiday Inn and as a volunteer fireman with the Canyon Lake Volunteer Fire Dept.  He retired in 1997.  In 2010 he moved to Marion, TX where he lived until his passing.

Jerre was preceded in death by his wife, his son, and his parents.  Jerre is survived by his daughters, Patricia Grisell, Tandy Mackey, Danielle Mackey, one brother, one sister, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a firefighter’s charity of their choice.
