Joey Herrera

Joel "Joey" Herrera, a life-long resident of New Braunfels, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels at the age of 43. Joey was born on July 28, 1970 in New Braunfels to Jose Herrera and Rachel Cantu. He was a 1988 graduate of Canyon High School and was a cabinet maker by trade. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26-years, Debra Herrera; son, Derek Herrera; daughter, Teagan Herrera; mother, Rachel Martinez and husband, Edward; father, Jose Herrera; sister, Joanne Hunter and husband, Dal, and their children Jackson and Langston Hunter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Antonio and Beatrice Camareno; brother-in-law, Jon Camareno and wife, Belinda, and their children, Ethan, River and Shelby Camareno; sister-in-law, Amanda Camareno. In addition, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of special friends survive Joey as well. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a Holy Rosary at 9:30 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Please note: there will not be a procession from the funeral home to the church on Friday morning. Those wishing to attend services on Friday are asked to meet at the church. All services will end at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass.

Joey was like a son. We will miss his smile, laughter and presence but he will always be in our hearts.

Debbie, I can truly say I know how you are feeling at this time. It’s been only 41/2 months since I lost your uncle, but it will be hard and like your world has ended but trust in god and he will give you the strength to carry on. Debbie I know life is crazy and it never goes as we plan it..my condolences to you and your family..I remember seeing you and your husband at the tube shoot cardboard float in April ..you told me y’all decided to enter at the last minute ..you guys were having a blast..what a great memory to have..those will stay in your heart..I know it’s hard Debbie the pain never goes away but you learn to live with it..stay strong my friend ..prayers flying your way..Big Hug!!
