Kara Green

Kara Green, beloved wife, cherished mother, and devoted daughter passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on November 1, 2024, in New Braunfels, Texas. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, lifelong friendships, her infectious laugh and her passion for teaching kindergarteners, whom she affectionately called her “doodlebugs.”
Kara, the eldest child to Lucy and John Edgell, was born on January 24, 1961, in Port Arthur, Texas and later moved to San Marcos in 1966. As a young child, Kara always had a cat in her arms, helped her father keep bees and raise rabbits. She loved helping her mother in the kitchen canning and jarring pickles and jellies; her love of family recipes began there.
John, her future husband, spotted a beautiful young girl sitting with her family in the front row at church several Sundays during the summer of 1979. Soon after high school graduation, Kara started taking summer classes at Southwest Texas State University. Much to John’s delight, they shared a speech and communications class together. Each had their eye on the other and would arrive early hoping to talk before class. Sparks flew and they married on June 11, 1983, in the same church where John noticed the beautiful young girl.
Kara’s greatest joy was being a loving wife to John, and a dedicated mother to her sons, Michael and Nicholas. Many of their family vacations were spent at the beach and rock hunting on camping trips. She was a dedicated band and football mom to her boys. Kara adored her daughter-in-law Madeline and was looking forward to being called “Nonna” by her first grandchild arriving next Spring. Kara’s favorite four-legged friend was Claire, the family’s German Shorthaired Pointer, who was always at her side and eager to take long walks around the neighborhood.
Kara graduated from Southwest Texas State University in three years with a degree in education and taught in Comal ISD for thirty-four years. She was well respected by her teaching colleagues, the school community, and especially by the hundreds of students whose lives Kara touched.
The family is incredibly grateful to everyone who loved, supported, brought meals, and visited Kara as she bravely fought cancer for eleven months. She never once complained.
Kara is preceded in death by her infant son Joseph, and grandparents: Edna and John Edgell Sr. and Johana and Sam Coco. She is survived by the love of her life of forty-one years, husband John D. Green, two sons: Michael Green and Nicholas Green (Madeline), her parents, Lucy and Dr. John Edgell, sister Lora Klinge (Paul), and three brothers: Johnny Edgell, Sam Edgell (Stephanie), and David Edgell (Lajuana). She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation and rosary are planned for Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lux Funeral Home, 1254 N. Business Interstate Hwy. 35, New Braunfels, Texas. A Catholic Mass celebrating Kara’s life is scheduled for Monday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 386 N. Castell Ave., New Braunfels, Texas. Words can not suffice your loss of a wife and a mother. She was also a mother to others, especially me. I felt I was under her watchful motherly eyes in my life growing up. She was gifted encourager to the reach the full potentially of my life. I also achieved my dream of becoming a mother and home educator of my own children. Rest in peace my dear friend. May Our Lady of Sorrows wrap her mantle around your family in this time. Be assured of my prayers from afar in MO. May the souls of the faithful departed through the Mercy of God, Rest in peace.

So very sorry to hear this. Mrs. Green was such a wonderful lady. My son had her for his Kindergarten Teacher and that set the tone for his school years. He just loved her so much. My condolences to the families. I pray that God wraps his loving arms around y’all and y’all find some peace. May she Rest In Peace. 💕🙏

I first met Kara Edgell when she was a beginning teacher at Goodwin Primary. Her infectious laugh and her delight in the children drew all to her. It was a pleasure to work with her and know her.

Kara Edgell Green and I were friends almost from birth. Our mothers were college best friends at Texas Women’s College. Lucy Coco and Joyce Guthrie has both become newlyweds close in time also. Lucy and John Edgell had Kara in January, Joyce and J. Alec Bahnson had me in 1961. Kara and John Green and I reconnected in Berlin, Maryland a little more than a year ago when they came here for a friend’s wedding. I am so thankful for a renewed friendship.
