Lois "Ann" Verschoyle

Lois “Ann” Verschoyle, 73, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family and the comforting sounds of prayer and music she loved.

Born in Cameron, TX, on March 24, 1953, to James Bryant Ezell, Jr. and Dorothy Rebekah Doss Ezell. Following her mother’s passing away, her Daddy later remarried and she and her sister “Becky” were adopted by Jessie Pearl Atteberry Ezell.  She grew up in Highlands, TX, faithfully attending Highlands United Methodist Church and helping at her parents’ corner drugstore, Highlands Pharmacy. She was extremely active in scouts working as a camp counselor and was also an active junior leader in her church and the church choir growing up. She had many friends and loved new experiences like her trip to Mexico! During her first year of college, she met the love of her life, Stephen “Steve” Verschoyle, Sr. They shared 51 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in June of 2025.

Ann’s favorite thing in the world was being a mom to Jessica, Stephen, and James. She was their fiercest supporter, loving them unconditionally and always supporting them the absolute best she knew how. Under her loving guidance, the children grew up deeply involved in church, the Scouts, and active family outdoor life. She was a wonderfully good sport on the many family camping trips her husband Steve loved to plan—even if her personal favorite part was staying back at camp with a good book. She filled her children’s lives with affection, countless hugs, and an abundance of joy.

Known for never meeting a stranger, Ann had a legendary memory for people, events, and a good story. She was a creative soul—an artist and poet who loved crafting, collected an impressive array of teddy bears, and had a soft spot for tiny things and dachshunds. Though she was famously known for burning everything in the kitchen except saucepan scotchies, she made sure her home was always filled with music, loud singing (she had a beautiful voice), and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy, James, and Jessie; her sister, Cathy Ezell Hobbs; and her husband, Stephen.

Ann is survived by her children: daughter Jessica Willis and husband Matthew, son Stephen Verschoyle, wife Bailey and cherished grandson Jonas, and son James Verschoyle; her sister Rebekah “Becky” Ezell Burbage and husband John; niece Stephanie Burbage and wife Caroline Godfrey; and nephew Jamie Hobbs, wife Danielle Wright, and son Drake.  In addition, Ann is also survived by many nieces and nephews on the Verschoyle side of the family.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Universal City United Methodist Church, 90 Winn Ave., Universal City, TX 78148.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ann’s memory to your favorite charity OR please bring a new teddy bear to be donated to children supported by Universal City United Methodist Church’s Border Ministry.
