Louise Karen Rolan

Louise Karen Rolan, 85, of New Braunfels, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in New Braunfels. Born on July 20, 1939, in Lovington, New Mexico, she was the daughter of the late Tom Adams Holder and Louise Keeler Albaugh Holder. Karen spent her childhood in Pecos, Texas, where her parents owned a laundry. As teenagers, she and her brother Doug helped their parents run the family business.

After graduating from Pecos High School in 1957, Karen moved to Lubbock to attend Draughon’s Business College. She met her future husband Cliff at Ben’s Aztec Inn, where they both worked. Cliff and Karen married on June 8, 1958, and raised their family primarily in Lubbock.

Throughout her career, Karen worked as a secretary and administrative assistant for various companies, including 20 years at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where she was part of the Graduate Programs department. She retired in 1999, allowing her more time to pursue her passion for quilting and travel with her husband. In earlier years, Karen was also a talented artist, known for her drawings and paintings of the southwest. She also had a deep love for reading, sewing, and crocheting.

Karen cherished her time with family and always welcomed her children and grandchildren with open arms.

She is survived by her children Terry (wife Sarah Waddill) and Lynda (husband Wesley Mings); her grandchildren Jason, Sarah, Bethany, and Sofia; and her great-grandchild Suzi.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Clifford Dean Rolan.

A commemoration will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Lux Funeral Home Chapel, with a reception to follow at Unity of New Braunfels.
