Maggie L. Adams

Mrs. Maggie (Margaret) L. Adams went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, after a long illness. She was born February 17, 1921 in New Braunfels, Texas and lived there all of her life. She was predeceased by her sister Lucille Lynch who died at the age of 21, and by her father Wallace Henry Lynch, and then by her mother, Zelia Lynch. Maggie was also predeceased by her husband Wallace Barcus Adams in 1984 and by her son Wallace Barcus Adams II in 1989. She is survived by four daughters: Margaret Matthews who lives in Virginia, Patricia Taylor who lives in San Antonio, Texas, Ruth Adams who lives in North Carolina, and Velma Adams who lives in New Braunfels. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-children including Margaret Richardson, Terry Taylor, Roxahne Adams, Christine Adams, Thomas Earl Fitchette, and Kimberly Nicole Adams. She worked as a cook for most of her life. The longest held position was 22 years at Krause's Cafe. She also worked as a homemaker, raising the five children as well as a granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She loved sitting on the floor and playing jacks with the girls, and would usually win, picking up all the jacks and catching the ball with them even up into her 60s. She also loved playing softball with the children. She was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years and a member of the American Cancer Society. One of her favorite volunteer activities involved traveling to various elementary schools and teaching about black history every year. Maggie grew up attending Live Oak Baptist Church, and since the 1980s she has been a faithful member of New Braunfels church of Christ, where she loved being a part of the Sunny Seniors group. Her faith, her sense of fun, her ability to laugh, and her resilience set her apart as a lady whom everyone loved and admired. She will be remembered on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11 am, in a public memorial service at New Braunfels church of Christ which will be facilitated by Pastor Chad Massie.
