Margarito Castilleja, Jr. passed away at the age of 82 on February 9, 2024 surrounded by family at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas.

Junior, as he was known by most, was born on February 13, 1941 to Margarito, Sr. and Vidala Castilleja in New Braunfels.

He worked at Mission Valley Textiles for almost 40 years. He worked for and retired from Comal independent School District.

Junior spent his retirement following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. He loved spending Fridays in the fall at Cougar Stadium watching his granddaughters on the dance team. Saturday mornings would find Junior at a sports field watching great-grandchildren playing sports. Junior enjoyed drinking beer, taking shots of tequila and watching action movies and westerns.

Junior is survived by his children, Michelle (Shawn) Condell, and Rene Castilleja; his ex-wife, Alicia Castilleja; grandchildren, Christopher (Devinne) Ortega, Kyana Crayton, Lexus Crayton, Isabella Castilleja, and Wyatt Condell; great-grandchildren, Chyanne, Levi, Brooklyn, Amaryana, and D’ejion; brothers, Felipe (Minerva) Castilleja, Paul (Nela) Castilleja, and Sylvester Castilleja; sisters, Eugenia Velasquez, and Rosa Gonzales, in-laws, Ramiro (Janie) Ramon, Jaime Pina, Odelia (Arturo) Caballero, Rachel (Donald) Miller, and Virginia Castilleja. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Junior is preceded in death by his parents, Margarito, Sr. and Vidala Castilleja; in-laws, Pedro, Sr. and Carmen Ramon; brothers, Hilario Castilleja and Jose Castilleja, Sr.; sister, Delphina Castilleja; in-laws, Frances Castilleja, Ralph Gonzales, Jose Velasquez, Iris Castilleja, Leonor Urdiales, Adelina Pina, Norbeto Ramon, Olivia Ramon, Hector Ramon, Pedro Ramon, Jr., and Gloria Ramon; grandson Caleb Castilleja.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 PM with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, February 16, 2024 with burial to follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
