Maria Morales, a life-long resident of New Braunfels, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels at the age of 94. Maria was born on August 31, 1921 in New Braunfels to George Martinez and Juanita Samudio Martinez. She later married Felipe Morales, who preceded her in death on February 1, 1976. Maria was most proud of her role as a stay-at-home mom, but did briefly work at Mission Valley Textile Mill here in New Braunfels. In addition, she was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Braunfels and was one of the original members of the Guadalupana Society at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; children, Mary E. Ortunio, Alberto Morales, Ernesto Morales and Benito Morales. Survivors include her grandchildren, John Ortunio, Ramon Ortunio, Andy Morales, Mike Morales, Melissa Bowman, Cynthia Nemec, Barbara Vanegas, Benny Morales, Mother Superior, Patricia Morales and Amy Morales; 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning, August 11, 2016 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the funeral home, and from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Funeral Mass beginning at 2:00 PM. All services will end at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Guadalupana Society of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Braunfels.
