Mary Annis Allen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in New Braunfels at the age of 76. Born on March 2, 1947 in Bexar County Texas, she was the daughter of the late Frank August Bauerlein and Dorothy Mae Barbarick Bauerlein.

Mary was an avid reader whose hunger for knowledge and learning knew no bounds. As such, she pursued higher education later in life, earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southwest Texas State University in her 40s, graduating Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors). Her passion for history and geography was evident in every facet of her life; she loved to travel, visit historical monuments and museums, attend auctions, and shop for antiques.

With a heart that resonated deeply with all creatures, Mary was a passionate advocate for animals throughout their life. Her unwavering love and care extended to every furry friend and feathered companion she encountered. Her compassion led her to nurture and rehabilitate various animal orphans, ranging from deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, javelinas, and other domesticated companions.

Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roger C. Allen; sons, Scott Allen and wife Holly, Bo Allen and Jonathan Jay Allen and wife Lisa as well as her grandchildren. Mary was adopted as an infant but later reunited with her biological siblings. She is also survived by her sisters Debra Johnson and Robin Amerine and brother Tim Bohannon.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00-8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Funeral Home with burial to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels.

  1. My Deepest Condolences to the Allen Family.
She was my Best Friend ever, since I came to New Braunfels, in October 1984.
She was closer than a beautiful, sweet sister! Always there for me for many, many years.
We shared many shopping trips to Vintage in Boerne and the malls in San Antonio and San Marcos! She loved hitting the estate sales across town and ending up with items that Roger would love and that she could not live without!
She was an Awesome, Wife, Mom, & Grandmother, Best friend and devoted her Kindness and Love to many rescued animals from all over New Braunfels, Comal and Guadalupe County. She Loved her Farm out in the Country! She will be Greatly missed by All whom came across her path. I know GOD has her as an Angel above! I will always Love and Miss you girlfriend, especially your Beautiful Heart! You gave all of us “JOY & HUGE BLESSINGS! Forever and always, I’ll remember you! xo Susidarlin Kinsfather & Maverick

  2. With love and prayers to all the Allen’s at this sad time. Mary Annis was such a brilliant woman who “handled “ all those men in her home with strength and fearlessness! We are better for having known her. We know that God is welcoming her for His use!!! Praying for all of you. ❤️.

  3. Her story here is a wonderful tribute to this amazing woman, whose heart held boundless devotion to her family, friends and the four-footed critters she nurtured and loved throughout the decades. I will miss our sister deeply, will miss our phone calls, texts, the shared disappointment when the Cowboys disappointed us yet again. She was a Texas woman to the marrow in her bones. May God send angels of comfort to help Roger, Scott, Bo, Jay and Lisa, Trent and Bo Riley through this difficult time. Rest well, Mary Annis. I love you.

  4. What a great lady. She found us after years of searching for us and we were rewarded with the grace of her presence in our lives for 24 years. We called, texted and visited together as much as was possible. We share a deep love of Texas history, the Dallas Cowboys and the KC Chiefs, animals of all kinds, and reading among others. She was gallant her entire life and we are blessed by having had her as our sister.
    She is greatly missed
