With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Mary Jane Zavala, at age 79 she was called to be with the Lord on May 6, 2026. Mary Jane was born February 10, 1947, in San Antonio Texas to Gilbert and Rosie (Martinez) Duque de Estrada. She married Fred Zavala on November 30, 1966.

She is survived by daughters, Gloria Villarreal, Zandra Williams (Matthew), Miranda Morales; son, Fred Zavala Jr. (Thip); brother John Estrada (Nina); caretakers, her grandchildren Jessica Gomez (Nolan), Mark Villarreal (Melinda) and great-grandson Jordan. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Zavala; son Paul David; her parents Gilbert and Rosie Duque de Estrada, her sister Geraldine Estrada and granddaughter Veronica Zavala.

Mary Jane was born in San Antonio but called New Braunfels her home. She was married to Fred for 56 wonderful years. She loved the Spurs, her family, and her favorite drink Coca-Cola. Her and Fred traveled the world earning 36 trips being the “Jewelrylady.” She worked for over 20 years after that selling Avon. Her biggest accomplishment was being the first Hispanic to work in the office at Dickies in New Braunfels. She loved her family and the friends that became family through her years of being in New Braunfels.

Viewing will be held from 5:00pm-8:00pm with Mariachis from 6:30-7:00pm followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary led by Joe Hernandez and Juanita Lopez Hernandez, which will begin at  7:00pm, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
