Matt H. Gonzales

Matt H. Gonzales, born on October 21, 1933 entered into Heaven on June 9, 2025 at the age of 91. He is preceded in death by his parents, Matt U. Gonzales, and Maria H. Gonzales and his sister, Virginia D. Gonzales. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Gonzales; children: Louis L.(Ernelle) Gonzales of Kauai, Hawaii, Rebecca Cooper (Jim) Tyndall of Grapevine, Texas, Matt L. Gonzales of Canyon Lake, Texas, Suzanne (Donna) Gonzales of Austin, Texas, Rose Alma (Ben) Gauna of New Braunfels, Texas, Christopher S. (Rita) Johnson of Edinburg, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
Matt was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. He attended Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas, before joining the United States Navy Reserve as a Machinist’s Mate. While in the Naval Reserve, Matt worked as a civil servant for the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, Manila, Philippine Islands, Honolulu, Hawaii, Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany, and finally in San Antonio, Texas, where he retired in 2000.
Thereafter, Matt enjoyed his retirement while traveling, fishing, boating, golfing, and remained a deeply devoted and ever involved in family activities. In 1990, he became a born-again believer in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, through the death of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. In service to Our God, he went on many mission trips to Mexico and elsewhere for the purpose of building churches and he participated in many local ministries, not the least of which was ministering to the homeless. He remained deeply devoted to this calling until the Lord called him home. His wish was for everyone to know Our Lord.
