Michael Dennis Smith

Michael Dennis Smith of New Braunfels passed away on September 29, 2026, at age 71, after a lengthy struggle with cancer.

Michael was born in Sioux City, Iowa, grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and Northern Illinois, and graduated from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois in 1972. Texas became his home in 2004. His passions were his family, spending time on the Guadalupe River with his friends, Jim and Tom, and cheering for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Indy Car Racing. He also attended the Memorial Day Indy 500 numerous times with his children.

Michael was preceded in death by his father and infant brother. He is survived by his mother, four siblings, four children, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Michael’s wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no visitation or services.

Michael will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but it is heartening to know he is now at peace with the Lord.
