Nellie Chung
February 20, 1942 ~ February 13, 2024
Our dearest Nellie Leeana Chung, of Paul Island, Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies, went to be with the Lord at age 81 on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 1:11 AM in her home, surrounded by her family. Nellie was born to Charles H.S. Tingling and Urcella (Bell) Tingling.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings: Ayrton Wesley/Eddie, Sybil, Hubert, Madge, Stainton/Sonny. Nellie is survived by Steve Chung, her loving husband of 55 years; children Lisa McIntyre (Scott), Darren Chung (Kylene), Nadia Cheek (Mark), Craig Chung (Roxy); grandchildren Reece, Tanner, Sarah, Luke, Chloe, Noah; siblings John, Tommy, Glenn/Ted, Mavis/P, Lorna; numerous relatives, friends; and the family dogs Lily & Daisy.
Nellie was a beautiful, smart, caring, courageous, faithful woman of God. She was a fighter of whatever illness came her way and some described her personality as “spicy.” Her love for her family was like no other. One of her greatest joys was cheering on her children & grandchildren in all of their successes. She was “Head Girl” at Manning’s School from 1958-1960, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Botany & Chemistry, plus a Master’s in Chemistry from the University of the West Indies. She worked as a Medical/Hospital Laboratory Technologist until age 67.
Our sweet Nellie also loved sports, UT Longhorns, Jamaican food, chocolate, salads, ice cream, “dancing” (especially to Bob Marley), movies, Scrabble, dominoes, Christmas music, old hymns, studying the Bible; watching for deer, planes, & birds, i.e. cardinals.
Our darling Nellie will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on through her family & all whom she has touched. We would like to thank her healthcare teams over the years, especially the nurses at Guiding Light Hospice & Dr. Beeram at Texas Oncology.

May her rest in peace
Thank you. Mommy is definitely at peace now. -Lisa
May her soul rest in peace.
Aunt Nellie, may you rest in Christ until that great Resurrection morning when you will see the face of God and hear him say WELCOME my child. My lovely Aunt I hope to see you there.
Rest in Peace 🦋🙏🏼
Nellie was a wonderful, sweet, devout follower of Jesus. She walked in His love every day. This love she passed on to her husband, children, grandchildren and numerous family members. She led a life focused on loving and caring for others. She is truly missed but we are comforted by knowing she is with her eternal Savior.
Nellie loved learning about Jesus and she adored her family. I will miss her smiling face from our bible study zooms. Until we meet in Heaven
Rest in peace Aunt Nellie
Aunt Nellie was a genuinely kind, loving, and faithful child of GOD. She loved the LORD and she proved him day by day and in every miraculous healing HE lovingly bestowed on her. Aunt Nellie lived life to the fullest. I will remember her as one of the Greatest examples I know of 2nd Timothy 4:6-8 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
Nellie was a dear family friend who will be dearly missed. I know she is at peace with our Heavenly Father.
Prayers to the whole family. So sorry for y’all’s loss. I meet her 36 years ago when I started training / working at Memorial City Medical Center.
Rest in peace
