Born in: Flint, Michigan
Resided in: New Braunfels, Texas

Sara Lee Sanderson, 85, of New Braunfels, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 in New Braunfels. Born on August 10, 1938 in Flint, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late James E. Sanderson and Josephine L. Moody Sanderson.

Sara is survived by her siblings, John Sanderson, Ruthann Taylor, and Patricia Robinson and their families, to include many nieces and nephews. She loved them all and they all adored her.

Sara was born and raised in Michigan where she lived until she moved to Florida with her husband. After his passing, she moved to Texas to be closer to her sister Patti where she stayed for the last 21 years.

Music was her life. She graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in music and was a music teacher for many years, teaching choir to children from third grade and up to High School. She herself sang in many choirs including a local German choir. Sara was heavily involved in the community and was a member of many clubs and organizations; she was the Art Leagues Council President for 3 years, which she was very proud to be re-elected after the first year. She was a friend to everyone. Every person from any walk of life was drawn to her and she had many friends in the nursing home who would seek her company. All of the caregivers also expressed how kind and lovely a person she was. She was the definition of a lady. Very well spoken, but could also make everyone laugh with her dry sense of humor and one-liners. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the Chapel at Eden Hill at 2:00PM.

Guestbook

  1. My thoughts and prayers to Sara’s family during this difficult time. Among other things sara was a student teacher in my music class at Lincoln consolidated school.

    • I am sorry to hear that my friend from college has passed away and extend my condolences to her brother John and sister, Kathy and Patricia. Sara and I had so many enjoyable experiences and felt her family was my family with so many sleep overs. She was a very sweet person with a sweet smile. I know you will miss her. But she will live on in your hearts and also in my heart and all the hearts whose lives she touched.

      • Sara made me laugh so many times. I just noticed she had on purple with a red hat. So even in death she made me laugh. I too have similar outfit.
“Warning”, “When I grow old, I shall wear purple….”

  2. Deepest condolences to the Sanderson family. Thinking of you and remembering our days on Rawsonville Road.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    Sincerely,
    Doris (Lindemann) Miller LHS ’59

  3. Sara was a warn and gentle soul. She brought so much joy to my residents and me whenever she would play the piano. I enjoyed talking with her. I will always remember her sweet smile.
